    We've published a new analysis looking at access to childcare* in England and how it has changed over the past 4 years: https://lnkd.in/dW4PUEi4 We found that:  - average access to childcare in England has declined since 2020  - the change in childcare access has not been evenly spread across the country  - some parts of the country experience persistently low access to childcare. These areas are disproportionately deprived and have lower than average incomes  - other parts of the country experience consistently high access to childcare. These tend to be in advantaged areas with higher household incomes. * This analysis only includes Ofsted-registered childcare places at nurseries and other group settings, and childminders.

    We’ve published two new reports looking at early years education. In the final part of our Best start in life research series, we look at what progress looks like for children in the 4 specific areas of learning. The report suggests factors of an effective early years education, including: - considering curriculum content carefully to make the best use of time - helping children to learn new things by making links with things they already know - interacting with children to find out what they know and can do We’ve also published a new report looking at how schools support children to develop the knowledge and skills they need by the end of key stage 1. The report identifies examples of good practice, such as schools that have adapted their curriculum to support the increasing number of children with communication and language difficulties. It also sets out some recommendations for schools around curriculum planning, the importance of practice, and the effective use of assessment.     Care-experienced young people were at the heart of our work to develop our supported accommodation inspections. Through a series of face-to-face workshops, people with lived experience helped us to refine our proposals for how we inspect supported accommodation. They understand more than anyone what strong supported accommodation should look like. Earlier this week, we had an opportunity to thank some of them in person. We’ve learned a lot from working together, and we will continue to learn and to listen.

    We’ve published a joint report with HM Inspectorate of Prisons on standards in young offender institutions (YOIs). We found that: - Over the past decade, YOIs have seen a reduction in the quality and quantity of education - YOIs are struggling to manage challenging behaviour, which is seeing children increasingly kept in isolation - Some children are allowed as little as half an hour a day outside their cell We make several recommendations for youth custody service leaders, including prioritising attendance at education.
