At a recent charity lunch, Leicester Tigers Rugby Club celebrated team success, remembering 2001/2 when they won the Heineken cup in back to back years. Many members of the winning teams were present, including Martin Johnson, who of course, also captained England to World Cup glory in 2003! We are starting to prepare for Formnext - Where ideas take shape and needed a new table. With #LCTitan we were able to easily print these table legs. Note no supports needed & you could print 10 legs in one build if needed. Maybe we should make some more tables! Looking forward to the show already..

Running trials with high-temperature resin 3D printed mould tools. These initial tests are wet lay, but next steps are bagged and pre-preg iterations to see behaviour under pressure and temperature. The resin should be good to 230 degrees without distortion. Initial results show good end-part accuracy and definition, and minimal tool finishing/prep required. The larger orange hatch tool had NO surface finishing after 3D printing - just treated with release agent and moulded from directly. You can see the extent of print marks carried over to the moulded part in the third image. Later steps will include sanding the tool to improve finish, but we wanted to see what finish was achievable straight off the print with only release agent prep work. The smaller clear dish tool was sanded to 1000 grit to achieve the finish of the moulded dish. Thanks to Agustin Soriano and Photocentric for the support with this project. The weather in North Yorkshire this afternoon might best be described as ‘autumnal’ but our start to the week couldn’t be brighter having seen these test cube castings fresh from pouring and knock-out. The 3D resin prints were kindly supplied to us by our friends at Photocentric as part of our ongoing evaluation of AM resins prints suitable for plaster-based ‘block’ investment casting. These complex geometries have cast very well in A356 aluminium and will now head off for post-processing before eventually ending up at a crash testing lab to help generate more data for our DfAM studies.

When Wurtec experienced damage to their 40 pin header during installation, causing shorting, they needed a fast solution. Molding a protector was not an option due to cost, time and volume needed. 3D printing facilitates so many everyday production tasks. Using Photocentric's DL110HB and BASF Forward AM's UltracurEPD2006, Matthew Mendez has been able to help Railex Conveyor Corp. reduce development times, increase product reliability and save costs. The garment industry needs conveyors to handle hangers that vary significantly in size, weight, shape and stability. This project led to a fully modular ramp system that can be easily installed on linear sections of the track to enhance functionality - a great use of 3D printing.
