Well that was awkward…. Last night, PMR Architecture got invited to the inaugural Charles Darrow Business & Commercial Property Agents Piston Cup Go-karting event and we smashed it!! Despite Jon Clyne’s best efforts by getting the fastest lap, he just couldn’t beat Shaun Davey to the finish line. Shaun and I were more than happy to take the Piston Cup back to the office where it sits pride of place on our awards shelf! I can see next years event being even more competitive and I’m sure James Sanders and Paul Heather will get some practice in before then!

We are back to the office this week, with confidence that 2025 is sure to be another strong year of growth, fantastic clients and projects. Given the testing year we all faced last year with the complexities surrounding planning and politics, we hope 2025 is a resounding success for all of our network. On that note, it is time to discuss the most important thing...2025 Golf Day! This year we have partnered with Tom George & Ross Margetts at Mansell McTaggart Estate Agents and we are very excited to share a Save The Date with more information to follow soon. Last year, despite the biblical weather, the event was a fantastic way of bringing together industry professionals to raise money for our chosen charity. This year our chosen charity will be Rockinghorse Children's Charity and we look forward to supporting their incredible work within the community. 📆 Thursday 12th June 2025 📍 The Dyke Golf Club We will be sending more information via email in the coming weeks so if you're interested in attending, sponsoring or supporting please message me or drop me an email to ashley@pmr-architecture.co.uk and we will be sure to share all of the important information on how to take part. It's bound to be an unforgettable day. Toby Graves of TPG Sports Events will also be helping ensure the day runs smoothly and allow myself, Tom and Ross to play some below average golf on the day. As 2024 comes to a close, I’ve been reflecting on what has been another exciting, and at times, hectic year for us at PMR Architecture. Both of our offices continue to go from strength to strength, driven by incredible clients and a brilliant team. Our Brighton office has been a particular highlight this year. We moved into a new space, welcomed the fantastic Michael Pirrie as a Senior Architect, and further established ourselves within Sussex and the surrounding areas. We can’t wait to share some of the projects we’ve been working on in the New Year! To thank our team for their hard work, we recently returned from a Christmas trip to Prague. While John Collar couldn’t join us, “Little John” quickly became a team favorite. It was mostly eating and drinking (as it should be!), but to prove it wasn’t just that, here’s a shot of Frank Gehry’s iconic Dancing House. This month also marks my two-year anniversary with PMR! It’s hard to believe how fast the time has flown, but I’m incredibly proud of all that we’ve achieved and excited for what’s ahead. A heartfelt thank you to our valued clients, consultants, and friends who continue to support us. Your trust and collaboration make it all possible. From all of us at PMR, have a fantastic and restful Christmas, and we’ll see you in the New Year!

Staying in touch with the local planning departments is vital in order to build a rapport with them, and to get to know one another better. The local Planning Agents Forums put on by Torbay Council are a great opportunity to do just that, but also to keep up to date with changing policy, validation requirements and also the building regulations. Tonight’s meeting was about the latest changes to the NPPF that got released today and also to understand the technical drainage and flooding challenges that exist in Torbay. At least one of us from PMR Architecture attend these meetings on a regular basis and we look forward to the next one.

We like to do Christmas parties a little different at PMR Architecture and this year did not disappoint. A trip away to Prague for the whole team was just what we needed after such a busy year, and I haven’t laughed so much in a long time. There were several sore heads along the way and a few stories to tell, but I think it’s best they stay in house! Unfortunately at the last minute, John Collar couldn’t make the trip, but we brought a print out copy of him with us to enjoy the journey anyway! We’ll all be back in the office tomorrow morning as we look forward to finishing the rest of the year on a high. 📸 Build It Awards 2024 at London’s Hilton Bankside. What a great experience. Despite our Lookout project missing out on the award for Best New Build Timber Frame Dwelling, I see the event as a huge step in the right direction. To be shortlisted for a national award is incredible recognition for the whole team at PMR Architecture. Despite not returning with an award, here are some photos of myself and Paul Rose having a lovely time, helped mainly by the company, the host and the wine.

The question I’ve been asked a few times this week: “Did PMR Architecture win the Build It awards on Friday for The Best Timber Frame Home?” Unfortunately we didn’t but what a great evening we had at the event. We made some great new connections and had such a laugh. We gave it our best shot but it wasn’t meant to be, the judges gave it to the Long Barn from WB Timber Innovations. We’ve won some awards this year but just to be shortlisted and get recognised for all our hard work and dedication, is just as important. We’ve got a great team and we wouldn’t be where we are without each and every one of us.
