Great progress for the wheelchair community! The Air4All consortium (Flying Disabled Christopher Wood MBE PriestmanGoode, SWS Certification Services) together with Delta Flight Products continue to develop solutions for the aviation sector that will facilitate inclusive travel for all. #air4all #inclusivetravel #designforall #aviation #aircraftinteriors

BREAKING (GOOD) NEWS. Lets share and embrace this. Wheelchair spaces in the aircraft cabin are set to becoming a reality. The Federal Aviation Administration anticipates signing off on safety of restraints within 2025. The FAA has been conducting and supporting research on integrating wheelchairs in the aircraft cabin for a couple of years. This includes investigating the impact performance of wheelchairs designed to an industry standard used for other modes of transportation and developing the process to install wheelchair tie down systems into aircraft. “Currently we have not identified any major issues to installation, and mitigations for any minor issues are being developed We anticipate being able to make a recommendation on installing the tie down systems by the end of next year (2025) and from there it would take an airline or another group to request the approval and begin modifying the cabin interior layout to accommodate a wheelchair in the cabin.” It is also anticipated that the U.S. Department of Transportation would start rulemaking at that point to require wheelchairs be accommodated in the cabin. There are still some operational pieces that will need to be discussed with the FAA and possibly the need to request an exemption for use” Joshua Wintersgill (BSc, MSc Technology)Roberto Castiglioni MBEMartyn Sibley Sophie Morgan Jet Gates Delta Flight Products PriestmanGoode SWS Certification Services

A morning of design talk at International Design Center Berlin (IDZ) one of the highlights of InnoTrans for the PriestmanGoode team. It’s refreshing to see some common goals emerge from the presentations and panels: co-creation and early collaboration between designer, operator and manufacturer could have a transformative impact on developing a design vision with fewer compromises later in the process. Thanks to IDZ for bringing all the stakeholders together again this year. #rail #design #cocreation #collaboration #transportation #transport design #passengerexperience #IDF2024 #InnoTrans

Designing for a better future meant making the most of what we had and minimising our environmental footprint. At PriestmanGoode, our Route to Zero approach integrated sustainable practices through the pillars of Reduce, Reuse, and Rethink—paving the way to meet net zero targets by 2050, or sooner. For Material Matters 2024, we applied this approach by using 100% recyclable honeycomb board for our structures, designed for easy disassembly and reuse. Our graphic designers also reduced ink consumption by 30% using innovative typography and eco-inking techniques. Other elements, such as the embroidered material and peg board, will be reused either in our studio or at future exhibitions. #MovingResponsibly #MaterialMatters #MaterialMatters24 #LDF24 #LondonDesignFestival #BritishDesign #SustainableDesign #TransportInnovation #EcoFriendly #InteriorDesign #LuxuryTravel #LondonExhibition #OxoTowerWharf

Design involves making choices, and it’s essential that those choices are well-informed and traceable. The materials used in transport interiors must meet certification requirements while also achieving optimal durability and functionality throughout their life in service, which can span many years. To support responsible decision-making and the tracking of specification, PriestmanGoode has developed Material Mind, a material database. By bringing together our extensive contacts across the supply chain, we’ve created a platform that facilitates sustainable decisions and serves as a reference point over the lifecycle of a product. This initiative is part of our role as material designers and influencers towards a sustainable future. We are previewing the database at Material Matters, with plans to launch later this year. Come and preview Material Mind at our exhibition, Moving Responsibly: A Material Journey, in Room 8 at Material Matters, Bargehouse. We'd be interested in hearing your thoughts. #MovingResponsibly #MaterialMatters #MaterialMatters24 #LDF24 #LondonDesignFestival #BritishDesign #SustainableDesign #TransportInnovation #EcoFriendly #InteriorDesign #LuxuryTravel #LondonExhibition #OxoTowerWharfDesign
