  • Why a colonoscopy is important: Understanding the procedure A colonoscopy is a crucial procedure for diagnosing various bowel issues. Here’s why it’s done: To investigate bowel symptoms: Experiencing bleeding from your rectum, persistent diarrhoea or constipation, unexplained weight loss, or fatigue? A colonoscopy can help to identify the cause. Usually it finds nothing serious, but it can highlight issues that need further attention. To check for polyps: Many people have bowel polyps, which are usually harmless but can sometimes turn into cancer. During a colonoscopy, these polyps can be removed and tested. To detect bowel conditions: Colonoscopy is essential for diagnosing conditions like Crohn’s disease, diverticular disease, ulcerative colitis, and bowel cancer. Early detection through this procedure can lead to effective treatment and better outcomes. Stay informed and consult your healthcare provider if you have any concerns about your bowel health. • Managing urinary tract stones Dealing with urinary tract stones? If ureteric stones are smaller than 5mm, they often pass without surgery. Alpha blockers can help to relax the ureter tube and speed up stone passage. When stones don’t pass and cause severe pain, kidney blockage or malfunction, or signs of infection then urgent action is required. A plastic tube called a JJ stent may be inserted under general anaesthesia to unblock the drainage system of the kidney, using a telescope through the urethra with no skin cuts. Visit our website for detailed information on further treatment options: Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), ureteroscopy, and Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) procedures. https://lnkd.in/ePHSze5s Contact us at +44 (0) 20 7317 7751 to make an appointment with one of our world class urology consultants. #UrinaryTractStones #Urology #PrivateHospitalLondon

  • Understanding urinary incontinence: Key facts you should know Did you know 1 in 3 people over 60 experience urinary incontinence? More common in women, but men can also be affected often due to prostatic surgery. Incontinence is not life-threatening but it can greatly impact your quality of life. Urinary incontinence may result from an overactive bladder, a weak pelvic floor/urinary sphincter or a combination of both. Patients with an overactive bladder often experience urgency incontinence. They may report symptoms like frequent toilet visits, rushing to the toilet, and waking up at night to urinate. Those with weak pelvic floor/urinary sphincter report leakage on exertion such as coughing, bending and exercising. Diagnosis involves a detailed history, bladder diary, physical examination, and specialised tests like flow rates, post-void bladder scan and urodynamics. Stay proactive and consult a healthcare professional for personalised advice and treatment options.
