Our Wellbeing Champions have been sharing their #ProductivityHacks with colleagues this week for #WorkLifeWeek Our Reward and Wellbeing Specialist Catherine Parkinson has also been sharing the importance of a #FlexibleWorking culture, no matter your job role, and how it can positively impact health, wellbeing and family life. The Flexible Working Act that came into effect this year aims to further help employers and employees reach flexible solutions that work for everyone. Today is World Homeless Day and World Mental Health Day. Both campaigns serve as a platform to shout about the great work and support available, whilst advocating for improved policies and funding that can help prevent and end homelessness and improve mental health services. Today aims to raise awareness about the needs of people who are currently experiencing homelessness or need support in building a brighter future for themselves, loved ones, friends or colleagues. With our homelessness charity partner, Key Unlocking Futures we work together to prevent homelessness, help people facing domestic abuse, support people with their health and wellbeing and strengthen communities. Next Thursday (17th October) will mark Key's 30th year of helping over 33,000 people across Lancashire to build better lives. Our supporting living subsidiary RWP (Reside With Progress) has colleagues joining multi-agency partners from NHS England and local commissioners in Nottingham to discuss strategies to reduce the impact of housing challenges and supported living patient flow. An outcome of the event is to develop an implementation programme which will run alongside three-year strategic plans. We've broken ground on our latest affordable housing development, which will deliver 102 new homes in Preston, Lancashire. The development will be made up of homes available for affordable rent and shared ownership, enabling people to get on the property ladder at a reduced cost. We are working with Lancashire property developer Breck Homes on the development and have received funding from Homes England. Earlier this week our Executive Director of Development Les Warren and colleagues from the group, Breck and Simon Fenton Partnership met on the development site for a sod-cutting ceremony. Les, said: “Having recently marked 30 years as a housing association and playing a key role in developing affordable housing in the North West, it is fantastic to be starting work on this new development in Cottam, Preston. As a social housing provider, it is our responsibility to continue providing high-quality homes of all kinds. We build homes for social and affordable rent, shared ownership, homes for older people, and supported accommodation for autistic adults, people with a learning disability, an acquired brain injury, or a mental health condition. In March 2024, we successfully delivered our five-year Development Strategy, which commenced in April 2019. This provided nearly 1,000 new homes, the majority of which were delivered across Lancashire. During 2023/24, we delivered 82 affordable rent homes, 59 shared ownership homes, and 35 supported living homes. We can't wait to welcome our newest Project SEARCH interns when they join us later this year. In the meantime, it's been great having the young people come along and take part in a number of our community projects and events, giving everyone a chance to get to know each other and showing the young people some of the work we do within our communities. We have been working in partnership with Runshaw College and DFN Project SEARCH for several years and are thrilled to soon welcome our fourth cohort of interns. Project SEARCH internships are designed to give young people with learning disabilities and autistic young people, the opportunity to gain work experience in a supportive workplace environment. A work coach will also support them through their internship and with finding paid employment once the internship comes to an end.
