Quartzelec completes intermediate service on a 13380kVA,11kV #Siemens Generator, at a thermal renewable power facility in the East Midlands, UK. Regular maintenance and service of critical rotating machine assets is key to ensuring operational longevity, with successful preventive maintenance programmes designed specifically to minimise the risk of machine failure through expertly planned machine inspections and service. Our experts currently maintain and support an extensive fleet of #HV #motors and #generators throughout the UK, helping to ensure longevity within a client’s maintenance framework. Incredibly thorough and ensuring that all components are inspected and tested as per client specifications, for this particular service work, the team kicked off with initial visual inspections of the generator and PMG, including mountings, foundations, external fastenings, instrumentation and heating. #Boroscope inspection of the generator #stator and #rotor, with rotor in position, enabled inspection of the #endwindings and rotor coils - assessing the overall cleanliness whilst specifically looking for signs of insulation degradation.             Electrical testing included phase resistance, insulation resistance (IR) and polarisation index (PI) of the stator winding, with rotor and exciter insulation checks and functionality checks were performed on temperature sensors and diodes. IR and PI of the exciter were also measured and brushes were replaced. Functional tests were performed on the AVR, including inspections of the connections, indicating lamps and LED’s, fuses, power switches, wiring and re calibration of the rotor earth fault detectors. The bearings and lubrication system form part of our inspection service along with the terminal box and generator cooling system – all visually inspected for signs of damage or leakage.
