Earlier this year, Carbon Engineer Mathis Kominiarz and Structural Engineer Dr Zeina AL-Nabulsi, Ph.D, attended the 2024 IABSE - International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering Symposium in Manchester, which focused on ‘𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘙𝘰𝘭𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘌𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘺’. Mathis and Dr. Zeina presented their paper titled "𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲-𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗻𝗲 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗩𝗶𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 & 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀”. Their presentation focused on the life cycle assessment of the Colne Valley Viaduct (CVV), with a specific emphasis on the carbon footprint of the deck superstructure. By analysing alternative materials and deck types, their study aims to identify bridge structural components contributing to high carbon emissions. Addressing these findings is crucial for future projects to adhere to the UK’s ambitious carbon targets for 2030 and 2050. The Colne Valley Viaduct, a key asset of the HS2 Phase One project delivered by the Align JV, is set to become the UK’s longest railway viaduct. #IABSESymposium #StructuralEngineering #Sustainability #Innovation #HS2 #CVV

We are thrilled to announce that the Padma Multipurpose Bridge has been shortlisted for two prestigious IABSE - International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering Awards in the categories of ‘𝘐𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯’ and ‘𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘋𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵’. The Padma Multipurpose Bridge is a two-level, steel truss structure featuring a four-lane highway on the upper level and provisions for a single-track railway on the lower level. The upper and lower levels are integrated with a reinforced concrete deck slab. Spanning a total length of 6.15 kilometres and a width of 22 meters at the upper deck level, the bridge also accommodates utilities such as a high-pressure gas pipe and telecommunication lines. Beyond the bridge itself, the project included an extensive network of associated road constructions. This encompasses two toll plazas, bridge end facilities, a 13.6-kilometer, four-lane dual carriageway approach road, culverts, small bridges, underpasses, service roads, and service areas for residential accommodation. Additionally, complex riverbank protection and training works extending 14 kilometres were constructed. This crossing serves as a vital transportation and service link, connecting two previously isolated regions of Bangladesh that were separated by the Padma River. Commissioned by the Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA), the project team included Rendel Limited (UK), BCL Associates Limited (Bangladesh), PADECO CO., LTD. (Japan), and Katahira Engineers International (Japan). Rendel provided Management Support Consultancy (MSC), which covered project management of the entire scheme, including contractual and commercial advice, engineering and technical support, budgetary and financial management, quality control and assurance, dispute settlement advice, and the implementation of social safeguard plans (environment and resettlement). Technical Director at Rendel Limited

Thrilled to share that I will be attending and presenting at the upcoming XVIII European Conference on Soil Mechanics in Lisbon, from August 26th to August 30th! This opportunity comes after the acceptance of a paper I co-authored with the brilliant Hoe-Chian Yeow from COWI, on interpretation of large diameter preliminary pile tests using O-Cell. I am incredibly grateful for the chance to represent Rendel Limited’s expertise and contribute to this field. I look forward to engaging with fellow professionals and researchers, and I’m especially excited to reconnect with some of my former university teachers, given the wonderful coincidence that the conference is being held in my university town! Thank you to HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd, Eiffage Kier Ferrovial BAM (EKFB) and Georgios Katsigiannis who have supported us on this journey. #ECSMGE2024 #Conference #Lisbon #TestPiles #OsterbergCell #Collaboration #Rendel #RendelLimited

In preparation for sporting events in 2024, Ingérop was commissioned to undertake the project management for the accessibility upgrades for two metro stations. With sailing and football events scheduled at Roucas Blanc Marina and Stade Vélodrome in Marseille, the city aimed to make Rond-Point du Prado and Vieux Port stations fully accessible to all. Over recent years, Marseille and the Aix-Marseille-Provence metropolitan authority have been dedicated to transforming the city into a more inclusive place, particularly by enhancing public transport access for individuals with reduced mobility. #MarseilleMarina #Brisbane2032 #Brisbane

Rendel Ingerop Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Rendel Limited and Ingérop, established its Sydney office in 2018. Our focus is on infrastructure, energy and industry projects in Australia, supporting key clients in the country’s rapidly growing sector. Rendel has a rich history in Australia, dating back to 1952 when we designed the Kwinana Oil Refinery for British Petroleum. Our Sydney office is headed up by Director Neil Kerridge.   In 2024, Matthew Lyons, the Business Unit Director for Energy & Industry, relocated to Perth, Western Australia, to further expand the team. The Roucas-Blanc Marina, known as the Marseille Marina for the international competitions, serves as a departure point for boats and has been adapted to host large sporting competitions. The Sailing events will take place here, with facilities capable of accommodating over 14,000 spectators to watch the events unfold on the Mediterranean Sea. The Ingérop Group oversaw the project management of the port facilities, which included conducting an impact study and drafting the water law dossier. The project’s goal was to design and build maritime facilities that would modernize, renovate, and optimize the Roucas-Blanc waterway and its surroundings. This initiative aims to enhance the usability of the facilities, aligning with standards and the city’s enduring commitment to developing water sports accessible to everyone. The newly developed facility will promote sea access for the residents of Marseille and offer a range of activities that are accessible to all, from teaching and practice to competitive training. #MarseilleMarina #Brisbane2032 #Brisbane
