📷 ☺️ It's been quite the week for high profile political press activity here in Wales. On their first official joint visit, Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with Wales' new First Minister, Eluned Morgan, at RWE's Brechfa onshore windfarm to outline the pivotal role Wales has to play in the ambition to make the UK a clean energy superpower. Then the First Minister joined Angela Rayner MP, Deputy Prime Minister, and Jo Stevens MP, Secretary of State for Wales, at the official opening of Pembroke Dock Marine's new £60 million development to attract offshore renewable energy firms and jobs to the region. Huge thanks to Port of Milford Haven for inviting us to attend. Lots of talk of turbo-charging ambition to deliver for a greener more prosperous Wales 💚

Congratulations to Pembroke Port on the opening of their new super-sized slipway, a much needed addition to help accommodate the building and testing of renewable energy devices 👏👏 While celebrating the milestone, Jessica Hooper speaks to BBC Wales' Environment correspondent, Steffan Messenger, about the true scale of investment needed to make our Welsh ports ready to build, operate and maintain the giant offshore wind turbines coming to the Celtic Sea. https://lnkd.in/eVrxFC3A

CELTIC SEA 🌊 The Crown Estate has launched the latest phase of its Offshore Wind Leasing Round 5, aiming to develop a new generation of floating wind farms in the Celtic Sea, off the coasts of South Wales and South West England. Research published in February this year by The Crown Estate showed that the supply chain for new Celtic Sea floating wind farms could create more than 5,000 new jobs and deliver a £1.4 billion boost to the economy. #FloatingOffshoreWind is set to play a major role in global energy production as we accelerate the pace towards net zero. Locating windfarms further offshore in deeper waters not only opens up new areas of seabed, but means we can harness stronger, more reliable winds. Our plans for new floating windfarms in the #CelticSea, off the coasts of #Wales and South West England, are an important step towards securing the UK’s position as a world-leader in this exciting new technology. As well as new renewable energy for more than four million homes, the new wind farms open up huge opportunities for on-shore jobs and economic growth. As the Round 5 leasing process moves to its next phase, bidders will now set out their plans in more detail including their plans to maximise these wider social, economic and environmental benefits. And we’re pleased to announce we’ve been working closely with National Grid ESO to make this the first offshore wind leasing round to come to market with an agreed plan for connecting these new windfarms to the UK’s energy grid. Looking ahead, our new partnership with Great British Energy will help us play an even greater role in the accelerated delivery of important clean energy infrastructure.
