We're proud to share a new Evaluation Report of Restart – an innovative pilot project developed and delivered in collaboration with the Drive Partnership, the Mayor's Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC), Respect UK, and Cranstoun. Restart is a collaborative programme that brings together children’s social care, housing and domestic abuse services to identify and respond to patterns of harmful behaviour at an earlier stage. Currently, it is being delivered across six London Boroughs. The Drive Partnership commissioned Jo Sharpen and Ellie Hutchinson, freelance consultants with a combined forty years of experience working on issues related to gender-based violence, to produce a comprehensive report. The evaluation set out to gather: - Qualitative learning around the impact of the intervention on adult and child victim-survivors’ wellbeing and safety. - Information to inform the development of improved child-level outcomes frameworks in order to improve future impact analysis for families. - An understanding of the impact of alternative accommodation pathway for adult and associated child(ren). The evaluation, which took place over a period of 8 months in 2024, places a strong emphasis on centring the voices and experiences of both adult and child victim-survivors. We encourage you to explore the full report to gain a deeper understanding of the findings and the future direction of interventions aimed at preventing domestic abuse and supporting affected families ↓ https://lnkd.in/gjDhG7dr

  • Today, Jess Asato MP will discuss her amendment to the Employment Rights Bill in the Chamber. The amendment requires that each employer with over five employees must have a domestic abuse policy in place. With survivors in most workplaces, this change is much-needed to both reach and support survivors. We are thankful to Jess for pushing for this change, as part of the government’s mission to halve VAWG over the next decade. Photo by UK Parliament https://lnkd.in/eJzbBTw

In 2016, we invested £1 million in The Drive Partnership, a programme working towards ending the cycle of abuse - the first type of project to focus on high-harm perpetrators through a multi-agency approach. Often, discussions of systems change and supporting victim-survivors of domestic and sexual abuse tend to focus on policy, attitudes, narratives, and ‘nudges’ that can shift people’s behaviour or decisions rather than targeted and practical intervention. One Drive partner shared one of the biggest obstacles in implementing lasting change is the difference in approaches. “There was a desperation for something different. Domestic violence is dangerous and frightening. Different agencies had different perspectives on it, and different responsibilities and expectations and protocols ... Nobody knew what to do.” That is where Drive came in and examined the underexplored and overlooked area of targeted intervention for high-harm perpetrators. The pilot project, which we invested in, developed extensive collaborative work and partnership building with local stakeholders and agencies, in partnership with Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs), to lay the groundwork and commitment for effective delivery. The project made, and continues to affect, a considerable impact on reducing perpetrator abuse. From 2016 to 2023, it: - resulted in an 82% reduction in physical abuse, - an 88% reduction in sexual abuse - and a reduction of risk to the survivor in 82% of cases Throughout our history, we have pushed for changes in our sector and our society so that women can live free of harm. Take a look back at how The Drive Project has contributed to this. Respect UK, SafeLives and Social Finance #InternationalWomensDay #DomesticAbuse #DrivePartnership #SmallButVital
