Today, we live in a society that is increasingly disconnected from the natural world. All too often we live through our phones, plugged into the internet and switched on, unconsciously seeking our next dopamine hit through our screens. This is most apparent in our younger generations, who live in a complicated world where TV, social media, and gaming so frequently provide an escape that would have once been to climb a tree, build a den or cycle to the woods with your mates. Whilst our young people are not accountable for the state of the world in which they live, the anxiety that burdens them - the climate crisis, the threat of war, pandemics, uncertain job prospects - encourages a drive towards the online world where they feel in control of the narrative, can find connection with others, or can simply just plug-in and tune-out. Add to this increased parental fear about letting children roam free, and we end up with children who want, and are encouraged, to stay indoors, and who are not out learning about nature by simply being in it. In a recent survey of 3000 children conducted by Save the Children, 70% of children said that they are worried about the world they will inherit, and 60% felt that climate change and inequality are affecting their generation’s mental health in the UK. Reconnecting our children with nature is vital if we are to stand any chance of recovering our natural heritage AND preventing future generations from experiencing a collapse in their mental health. As naturalists, and with some of us being parents, the RESTORE team warmly welcomes last week's government announcement of the introduction of a new Natural History GCSE. This important step will help connect more children with their world and help shape our future leaders, empowering them with the knowledge and confidence that they will need to continue to make real change. Nicola Wingfield, Business Manager for RESTORE has a nature-loving daughter who is due to choose her GCSEs this year, she says "Natural History GCSE presents a wonderful new option for children. So many care deeply about the world that they live in but don't know how to develop their knowledge or feel paralysed by the bleak future that is presented in the news. I hope that this GCSE will empower more young people to be part of the change that is needed. I know my daughter, if offered the option at her school, would jump at the chance to study natural history at an academic level." Ross Wingfield, Restoration Director for RESTORE, shares his thoughts on the recent news in the video below and recalls his meeting with Mary Colwell last year learning about her journey in making the Natural History GCSE happen. #naturalhistorygcse #education #naturalhistory #gcse #environment #nature #youngpeople

  • "As my friend Alasdair Cameron, founder of local wilding charity Somerset Wildlands, puts it, rewilding is like other cultural movements – such as punk, that are difficult to pinpoint a unanimous definition for. But in terms of what rewilding means, that is a lot easier to encapsulate. The philosophy, as opposed to the definition, of rewilding implies a nature-led journey in ecological restoration – one built around natural processes, some surprises and a reasonable lack of expectation. One word that I’ve heard most people frequently associate with the movement, that again is hard to work into a scientific definition, is hope. We often turn to the big, headline-grabbing case studies like Yellowstone or Knepp Wilding for blueprints, but quite often we can find examples of rewilding happening closer to home and without much fanfare. For me, a place that embodies the philosophy of rewilding made real is Fishlake Meadows - an area of wetland close to where I grew up in Romsey, Hampshire." 💦🌿🦢 Read the full article by our Species Ecologist, Pete Cooper in celebration of the #WorldRewildingDay here: https://lnkd.in/dfTdGB9R #rewilding #naturerestoration #restorenature #nature #environment #conservation #wildlife

  • We are pleased to announce that RESTORE is partnering with the Country Land & Business Association (CLA) at the upcoming Institutional Landowners’ Conference, taking place on 26th March in London. Our Commercial and Natural Capital Director, Gil Martin, will be speaking on how natural capital is creating new opportunities for landowners, land managers, and the natural world. With the increasing importance of nature-based solutions and sustainable land management, this event presents a valuable opportunity to explore how landowners can leverage natural capital for both environmental and financial benefits. We look forward to contributing to these critical discussions and engaging with industry leaders on the future of land stewardship. 🗣️🗺️🌱 Register your attendance here: https://lnkd.in/ec7HYnn2 #restorenature #naturalcapital #landmanagement #environment #nature #greenfinance #bng

  • At RESTORE we are fortunate to meet, and work with, a diverse range of exciting and inspiring individuals, companies and organisations who help us further our mission of restoring nature across the UK at pace and at scale. It gives us great pleasure to announce that in 2025 we have once again committed to being a partner at the Blue Earth Summit, which is shaping up to be even more impactful event than ever before. 🌍 Benedict Macdonald, Found & Director of RESTORE sums it up: “RESTORE’s partnership with the Blue Earth Summit represents everything we are striving for as a nature restoration business: connecting ecological restoration and natural capital to investors and making nature’s recovery an irresistible and attractive asset class.  Last year’s event saw a powerful fusion of NGOs, investors, landowners and environmentalists all sharing the same space, swapping ideas and building partnerships. This breaking down of barriers is essential for nature’s recovery, and it is great to see Blue Earth summit leading the way.” The Blue Earth Summit is being held once again in London on 15-17th October 2025. Tickets are available at https://lnkd.in/ejsjTMxu and RESTORE will be there leading the conversation on how businesses, investors, and landowners can unlock the true value of restoring ecosystems. 🐛 🦋 🌿 #environment #nature #naturerestoration #restorenature #finance #naturalcapital #biodiversity

Commercial and Natural Capital Director | RESTORE | Ecological Ambition | Natural Capital as a Catalyst for Change | Nature Connection

Nature needs a brooding Italian super sub more than ever! As we stand on the brink of complete nature collapse, there is another path emerging fast... One in which the opportunity lies not within the exploitation and consumption of nature's finite resources and services, but within the ambitious restoration and preservation of healthy natural systems. Our version of a last minute winner may well be the mobilisations of billions of pounds of institutional investment into the natural systems that sustain us. #naturalcapital #nbs #natureasanassetclass #naturebasedsolutions #sustainablefinance

"It is the move to making landscape restoration 'profitable' that I think provides the opportunity for hope. We have so much to do, so far to travel, so much to change, and such little time in which to do so, that I see no realistic way of achieving the required momentum without the creation of a commercial incentive to do so. If the nature crisis was a football match, we would be 2 nil down and deep in extra time, and Natural Capital is our brooding Italian super sub. So, although the phrase Natural Capital may seem a little blunt or even counter to the values of nature for nature’s sake, it represents a genuine opportunity to put nature at the forefront of all that we do and all that we are, right where it belongs." 🌳 💸 🌄 Read the full article by our Commercial and Natural Capital Director, Gil Martin here: https://lnkd.in/e_cXcTS5 #naturalcapital #rewilding #environment #nature #investment #naturerestoration #restorenature #finance #greenfinance

"Specialists in nature restoration can’t be everywhere all the time, and therefore we must lean into communication tools. Effective communication tools help us to bridge different spaces, engage different perspectives and present a compelling vision for the recovery of ecological complexity. Constantly, as practitioners of nature recovery, we must speak with land managers, clients, and external stakeholders, justify decision making, and be able to rationalise and quantify routes to achieve more complex situations that allow nature to rebuild.   Land App is an exemplar tool for rapid fire interrogation of a site, and a thread that links us directly to multiple stakeholders and integrates with other technological advancements in land management and mapping systems. We can use it to discuss sites remotely and contemplate changes to a site, almost as if we are around the table together." 🧑💻 🗺️ 🔎 Read the full article by Andrew Scoon, our Ecological Land Manager, here: https://lnkd.in/d-qX-Bhp Email info@restorenature.com if you would like to find out more about the work of RESTORE and the services we offer. #LandApp #naturerestoration #rewilding #maps #mapping #landmanagement #nature #environment #land

  • "After months of legal battles led by Client Earth, the European Court of Justice ruled that the logging was illegal and imposed heavy financial penalties on the Polish government. The harvesters eventually left the forest, ensuring the safety of this precious habitat and its incredible wildlife. This victory was the result of incredible dedication by thousands of people - and I believe communication and evocative storytelling played a pivotal role in that success. The same principle applies to nature restoration, including rewilding. Effective communication can present the movement in a public-friendly way, inspire enthusiasm and confidence in the cause, help projects achieve their goals, and foster trust among different stakeholders - allowing for more effective collaboration. As Sir David Attenborough once said, saving the planet is now a communications challenge. " 🌳 💬 🗣️ 📺 Read the full article by our Communications Manager, Agata Rucin in celebration of the #WorldWildlifeDay here: https://lnkd.in/erRPKz2b #rewilding #naturerestoration #restorenature #nature #environment #conservation #wildlife #communication #storytelling
