  • Working together for a greener Newcastle 🤝 💚 Together we have recycled over 15 tonnes of small electricals in the past year . ♻️ Thanks to the overwhelming success of this trial and our community's commitment to sustainability, we're excited to continue this service into 2025. Cllr Alex Hay, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services said: “The campaign has highlighted Newcastle’s strong commitment to recycling, proving that when the process is straightforward and accessible, residents are eager to take part. This initiative serves as a powerful example of how community-driven efforts, backed by local authorities, can create meaningful progress toward a more sustainable future.” Thank you to everyone who has supported our small electrical recycling service, let's keep up the great work. 💪 Read more 👇

Newcastle City Council Councillor 2016-2019, 2022-present & Cabinet Member for Economy, Jobs and Skills. Office Manager to Member of Parliament. MA Political Research with dissertation on devolution.

Newcastle Welfare Rights is an incredible organisation that provides a vital service to our residents.   This brilliant Newcastle City Council team team has worked with more than 5,000 residents in the last 12 months, helping them access around £10m collectively. This is money they’re entitled to but have been struggling without.   It doesn’t just help the individual supported either. Helping people get what is available to them means more money into our local economy which boosts local businesses, and it eases some of the pressure other services face when people are struggling and need extra support.   I’d urge anybody needing assistance to contact the team. They’re an incredible group of people who care passionately about supporting our residents. Thank you Newcastle Welfare Rights Service for the difference you make to our city.   Find out more about the team’s work and how they could support you and your network - https://lnkd.in/ebhvdfTn

  • Eddie Howe - Honorary Freeman in waiting 🖤 Cllr Karen Kilgour, Leader of the Council, has today nominated Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe to receive the city's highest honour and be given the Freedom of the City of Newcastle 🏆 Subject to formal approval of the council, the cup-winning boss will join the likes of Sir Bobby Robson and Alan Shearer in receiving this recognition. Cllr Kilgour said: “What Eddie has achieved during his time at Newcastle United is nothing short of extraordinary and I’m delighted to nominate him for Freedom of the City. “Newcastle United is part of the fabric of our city with the fortunes of the club playing a huge part in the lives of supporters in Newcastle and across the world, myself included. “Generations of supporters have never seen their beloved club lift a domestic trophy, and under his leadership we all now have treasured memories of a truly unforgettable day. • Happy World Social Work Day 🌍 Today, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible social work teams. Meet Gully 👋 Gully is a Senior Social Work Practitioner in our Children and Families team. She has been with Newcastle City Council since November 2020, after previously working with Northumberland County Council as a Social Worker. When asked about her role, Gully shared: “Each day can be quite varied. I could be visiting children and families, going to meetings, attending court, or dealing with an emergency situation. What I like most about my job is working with people. In this job, you are dealing with a wide range of people, which include children, parents, schools, health visitors, and grandparents to name a few. My job is never boring and always keeps me on my toes. I am proud of working for Newcastle City Council and treat all the people I work with in a fair manner. I am very keen for our children and young people in Newcastle to be ambitious and reach for the stars.” Thank you, Gully and our incredible social work teams for everything you do to support our communities. 🌟 #WSWD2025

  • It's been a busy meeting for the council's Cabinet tonight. They've been discussing a variety of important matters including housing and development, education for some of our most vulnerable children and young people, and making the best use of our buildings and community facilities used by residents across the city. Hear below from Cllr Alex Hay, Deputy Leader of the Council, about what they've been discussing 👇
