  • Congratulations to the 21 people who left our latest recruitment day on Saturday with conditional job offers. 👏🏻 The event had a particular focus on registered nurses and healthcare support workers and our teams were delighted to meet so many people enthusiastic to work at Royal Papworth and in the NHS. Those offered roles included 10 registered nurses, 10 healthcare support workers and one catheter laboratory assistant, which will benefit teams across our hospital. Thank you to our colleagues for the hard work and continued collaboration that enabled this recruitment event to be such a success. We look forward to our new recruits starting in the near future. 💙 #NHS #Careers #NewJobs #RoyalPapworth

  • Advancing conversations around racial equity in healthcare was the theme at a special event to mark Black History Month, organised by our race equality network and EDI team. ‘Reclaiming Narratives’ saw a four-strong panel of distinguished keynote speakers sharing varied and insightful perspectives to a room full of staff. Between them Karen Daber, Marcus Riddell FCIPD, Michelle Cox and morvia gooden brought compelling insights into the experiences and contributions of Black Britons to the UK. Senior leaders Oonagh Monkhouse, Director of Workforce and Eilish Midlane, CEO, also provided engaging and impactful remarks at the start and end of the session, expressing pride in championing these discussions and their dedication to fostering positive change. Onika Patrick-Redhead, Head of EDI at Royal Papworth, said: “The panel’s thought-provoking presentations challenged conventional narratives, sparked meaningful dialogue, and highlighted the importance of amplifying authentic Black voices, especially within the healthcare system. “The event's success was evident in the engaging discussions that followed, bringing together staff from across Royal Papworth to share experiences and perspectives on creating a more inclusive NHS.” #BlackHistoryMonth

  • We are very pleased to welcome three individuals as patient safety partners at Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. In their voluntary roles, Carole, Magdalini and Chik will be actively involved in how we learn from patient safety events. They will help us to ensure that the people who use our services are at the heart of our learning and development, by contributing to the development of the safety culture and patient safety systems within our organisation. ⭐ A familiar face to many at the hospital, Carole Cooper has volunteered for two years in the day ward and also our smoking cessation team, which is part of our work to address health inequalities. ⭐ Magdalini Triantafyllidou is a radiographer at Royal Papworth and has chosen to volunteer for this new position in addition to her current role. ⭐ Chik Knox-Macauley is a former patient at Royal Papworth who also has a professional NHS clinician background. Thank you to all three for stepping forward for these new, unique and important roles. 💙 📸 Our patient safety partners with Louise Palmer, Deputy Director for Quality and Risk (far left) and Clare Steele, Patient Safety Lead (far right). #PatientSafety #PatientSafetyPartner #Quality #Learning #Development #NHS

  • There were an incredible 730 nominations submitted for our 2024 staff awards, demonstrating the simply huge amount of excellence, compassion and collaboration on show at Royal Papworth Hospital. A judging panel, comprising staff, governors and staff network representatives were all hugely impressed by the number and quality of applications and they had the unenviable task of selecting just 45 finalists (we let them out of the room eventually…). Shortlisted finalists will be invited to the awards ceremony in mid-December at Homerton College, Cambridge. There, 15 winners will be revealed during a night that celebrates not just their impressive achievements, but also pays tribute to the amazing work that all our staff do every day to support our patients and each other. Congratulations to everyone who received a nomination. 👏🏻 We’ll be showcasing a random selection of finalists across our social media channels over the next two months in the build-up to our awards night. 💙 #StaffRecognition #StaffAwards #Excellence #Compassion #Collaboration #RoyalPapworth

  • There was collaboration on show in abundance earlier this week as Royal Papworth and five other partners teamed up to deliver free life-saving training to the public in Cambridge city centre, as part of Restart a Heart day. More than 600 people passing through The Grand Arcade benefitted from this free opportunity to recognise the signs of a cardiac arrest, carry out CPR and learn how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). Sara Almeida, Resuscitation Officer at Royal Papworth, said: “The event was a huge success and what impressed me the most was the engagement and enthusiasm from all participants. “People were asking insightful questions and were keen to apply their newfound knowledge in their day-to-day lives. “We also heard examples from people of friends or family members, who were only alive after suffering a cardiac arrest because someone nearby knew CPR. “It was brilliant collaborative effort from everyone involved to deliver a great day.” Thank you Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, East Anglian Air Ambulance, East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust and Magpas Air Ambulance for the opportunity to come together and provide this vital life-saving training. 🤝🏻💙 #RestartAHeart #CPR #Collaboration #Cambridge

  • Our research and development team recently hosted a workshop that spotlighted the underrepresentation of ethnic minorities in health research and tackled the barriers hindering their participation in studies. Attendees heard compelling presentations from a number of members of staff including Onika Patrick-Redhead, Dr Martin Besser, Dr Nicole Asemota, Vikki Hughes, Josevine McClean, Helen Mulcahy and Elani Gale. The group were also joined by Black Thrive Haringey, who shed light on the inequalities that Black people face throughout their lives, which detrimentally impact their mental health and well-being. The workshop was brimming with engagement and insightful contributions and everyone was also able to enjoy a wonderful selection of Guyanese and Caribbean food. Thank you to everyone who attended and participated. 💙 #Research #HealthResearch #Inequalities #Healthcare

  • Pharmacy technicians are essential to the smooth running of our pharmacy, showing good communication and collaboration with pharmacists, nurses and doctors to provide the best service for our patients. 💊 Their daily tasks can vary from labelling and dispensing medication (once approved by a pharmacist); completing inpatient, outpatient and discharge prescriptions; talking and guiding a patient through their new and existing medication; and much more besides. Yesterday a number of the team hosted their own stand in our atrium to help educate fellow staff, patients and visitors about their profession and their individual backgrounds, as part of their World Pharmacy Technician Day celebrations. From Simon, who initially started as an NHS porter in 2006; to Zara, a trainee pharmacy technician who has learned so much in her eight months; to Emma, who helped identify and create new roles within the team; each pharmacy technician plays their part to ensure our patients’ pharmacy experience is of the highest level possible. As Joanne summarised: “I feel everyone works really well together as a team. Everyone is lovely and we showcase good collaboration with all our colleagues.” Thank you to all our pharmacy technicians for your outstanding work, every single day. 💚 #Pharmacy #PharmacyTechnician #WorldPharmacyTechnicianDay

  • Our long service awards saw us celebrate 70 people who have reached 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 or, in two cases, an incredible 40 years of service to Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. 🏥 Each has played their own part in so many achievements during their time, with their dedication to our values of excellence, compassion and collaboration setting the standard for others to follow. In particular, congratulations to Maureen King, lung cancer specialist nurse; and Donna Ward, cardiology matron, who were both given special recognition for working at Royal Papworth for 40 years. 🤩 In addition, a further 59 people will be recognised for reaching a decade of service at Royal Papworth. Combined, this means these individuals have amassed more than 1,935 years of loyalty to our hospital and the NHS, as well as to our patients and each other. Congratulations on your achievements – we are extremely proud to have you all as colleagues. 💙

  • AI technology is being used here at Royal Papworth Hospital to help deliver faster and more accurate diagnoses of strokes. AI algorithms used by the Brainomix e-Stroke system helps interpret CT scans taken at our hospital, providing real-time information for our staff and NHS colleagues delivering care at specialist stroke units nationwide. The technology helps doctors to make informed decisions, allowing more stroke patients to get the right treatment, in the right place, at the right time. Dr Bobby Agrawal, consultant radiologist at Royal Papworth and clinical lead for the East of England Diagnostic Imaging Network (EDIN), comments, "Acute strokes are difficult to diagnose on CT scans. Our radiologists are heart and lung specialists, rather than expert radiologists, so they are not necessarily recognising all signs of a stroke. “This is where the Brainomix systems helps, by analysing scans using AI algorithms to provide a faster and more accurate diagnosis. “It then makes data instantly available to specialist stroke units, such as at Addenbrooke’s Hospital right here in Cambridge, speeding up the diagnosis of stroke and therefore allowing patients to receive treatment at the earliest opportunity.” 🔗 https://lnkd.in/exc4mbBa #AI #AITechnology #StrokeDetection #Stroke #RoyalPapworth #NHS
