Trying to do it all, right from the start?
That’s not a winning strategy. 🚫
Here’s what I learned from my conversation with Anna Pozniak from NetHunt CRM 👇
✅ The search for PMF is an ongoing effort
✅ One channel can take you easily to $1M in ARR
✅ Building a brand serves as a force multiplier to all of your efforts
✅ Get our team out there as much as possible to remain top of mind for future buyers.
What was your biggest mistake as a marketer?

How to go from CFNo 👎 to CFGrow 📈
"If I'm a CFO and I don't have clarity on the business, I have to say 'no'... But when I've got visibility on what's going on and confidence in our business model and product-market fit, that empowers me to be a CFGrow," David Appel, Global Head of Subscription and SaaS Vertical at Sage Intacct, Inc.
Gone are the days when SaaS CFOs were just the company's financial gatekeepers. Today's CFOs are driving strategic growth.
In this post, David Appel and Cosmin Pitigoi (CFO at Flywire) break down three key ways modern CFOs are transforming from growth blockers into growth enablers:
• Deep operational understanding
• Strategic GTM collaboration
• Data-driven decision making

"Why did you do the SaaStock wristbands and not just get a booth!?"
1)A booth would have meant trying to get people to come to us. Very difficult when you don't have much budget and can't make a hugely impactful stand.
2) We had 3 people there. We didn't want to spend our time being glued to our booth trying to get people to chat with us.
3) Everyone at the event was in B2B SaaS - Wristbands was a guaranteed way to get Lemon (lemon.co) in front of every single one of them that attended the event. Everyone needed one to get in / around.
4) It meant we could get the eyeballs of every single person there for under £2 a head. Maximum exposure, minimal outlay.
5) They were an incredible conversation starter (along with our bright yellow hoodies!) as there was common ground with every one we wanted to speak to. and who wanted to speak with us.
6) We put a Lemon / SaaStock URL on the wristbands so could track the impact and see the companies that had hit our site / viewed our video / consumed specific content.
7) Brand awareness. In most SaaStock photos i've seen, you can see the Lemon wristband.
8) It made one of our competitors go "oh shit. they're from Lemon!"
So yeah, that's why.
Messaging Strategy for B2B & SaaS @ Lion Words | Helping you achieve message-market fit💡 | Anti-buzzword Strategist, Speaker & Founder | Host of The Marketing Meetup Barcelona
“What’s one SaaS buzzword you’d like to ban?”
The most common answer might surprise you…
Despite honourable mentions (and the rogue answer from Guillaume Moubeche 👀) it’s not:
❌ supercharge
❌ solutions
❌ leverage
❌ optimize
Even at a SaaS conference, the buzzword most tech marketers and founders are getting tired of is actually:
🤖 Artificial Intelligence
AI-enabled this…
AI-powered that…
AI-driven blah blah…
Peep Laja recently shared that Wynter's message testing data is showing how ‘AI-focused website messaging is turning off more and more people’
It’s gone from impressive to table-stakes — real quick!
Most buyers don’t care that your tool uses AI. They do care about how it benefits them (what they can do with it, what pain they avoid, what they gain, etc.) But it’s not the focal point you think it is.
So, how would you have answered? Share the buzzword you’d like to ban in the comments 👇
P.s. huge thanks to Corey Haines, Emma Stratton, Wes Bush, Mads 🍎 Wedderkopp, Angeley Mullins, Bianca Dragan, Julie Matkin, Ulrike Grandi-Haferstroh, Luca Micheli for letting me interview them at SaaStock#SaaSMarketing#LionWords#Messaging#Buzzwords#MessagingStrategy#SaaStock2024
🚀 SaaStock 2024! 🚀
What an incredible experience—filled with insightful talks and key takeaways from leaders in the SaaS space. Here are some of my favourite highlights:
🔥 "One CFO’s Secrets to Scaling a FinTech Business Globally"
with David Appel & Cosmin Pitigoi:
☑ Focus on the biggest milestone
☑ Run towards challenges ("Run towards the fire!")
☑ Experience + Leadership soft skills = Who you show up as
☑ Leave a legacy for your successor
💡 "5 Cheat Codes Stole to Scale to $400M"
with Howard Lerman:
➡ Storytelling is a game-changer
➡ Skip long 1-1s; opt for 5-minute efficient meetings
➡ Advisor-led growth works
➡ Delegate—but in the right order. Interesting that after legal, accounting was 2nd!
Incredible insights and can't wait to implement them!
Also thanks to Aaron Humphreys for the video suggestion!

Having run SaaStock for 9 years with 7 European editions and 2 USA editions & 427 episodes of The SaaS Revolution show podcast, I know this much:
No successful SaaS Founder has ever gone it alone.
They've built support networks. They are part of peer groups.
They want to make the loneliest job in the world less lonely. Learn from others to become better and avoid the potholes.
This led to me building The SaaStock Founder Membership on a mission to help thousands of founders become better, more successful, less lonely and overcome the odds.
Recently our members joined us at SaaStock Europe's 7th edition. What made it better for them, was they had an exclusive day to get together pre-event.
They got to connect with their tribe and then be part of roundtables led by:
Krish Subramanian CEO of ChargebeeGodard Abel CEO of G2Brendan Noud CEO of LearnUpon
Who then faced a Q&A from the group including questions such was 'what did it feel like when you hit rock bottom?'.
I can't reveal the answers as it was a Chatham House rules event. But I can tell you everyone was open, honest, vulnerable.
The connections forged pre main show and the ROI provided made that day alone worth the trip to Dublin for these founders.
With each interaction, each event, each new member, SaaStock Founder Membership (SFM) get's stronger and drives more value to the brilliant founders within.
We've more to do and i'm excited about how much impact we can make together in the future.
From 700 to 4,000 founders, spanning across 34 countries—what's Alexander's secret? 👀
Let's find out!
-------
For this interview, I was fortunate as I stumbled across Alex enjoying his 🍿 at SaaStock Dublin 2024.
As always I had a few questions, so here are the key insights from our nerdy session 👇
📣 Start with building an audience
A community is nothing without a passionate audience. Fortunately for Alex, he managed to spot a gap in the market thanks to the needs of his community members, who later became his biggest supporters.
Bonus tip from Alex 👉 Try getting the number of your members so you can maintain these relationships.
👑 Putting your brand champions on their thrones Joran Hofman
If you want to penetrate a market, there is nothing better than having someone else do the marketing for you. Kudos to Joran for embracing his role and helping the community to grow further within the Netherlands 🇳🇱
🤝 Stop betting on volume, start looking for relationship creation during the event
We have all been in events where you happen to be pitched to death due to the volume of people coming to it. That's why betting on quality matters so much nowadays.
*Shameless plug* The Growth Syndicate is hosting the first B2B Growth Meetup on November 28th in collaboration with Nobel Recruitment.
💰 Events can be ROI generators
Alex measures SaaStock's success through a post-event survey, a customer insights report, the overall satisfaction of partners, and rebookings at the event itself.
A bonus tip from me: As part of your ROI-generating signals you can attribute the number of posts, uploaded after or during the event itself.
👋 The final advice to the SaaS founders out there?
Start investing more in events as they seem to be the ultimate predictable channel that can serve as a force multiplier for your SaaS.
