Prevention and support in the event of domestic abuse and sexual violence at festivals and events. Eradicating VAWG.

About us

Safer Spaces Now CIC is a non-profit working to prevent VAWG and all forms of Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (DASV) Onsite at events and festivals, we: •Raise awareness, providing education (talking to women and girls about sex positivity, body positivity and empowerment, as well as talking to men and boys about consent, gender inequality and what is not appropriate behaviour and how to be part of the solution regarding VAWG) •Deliver onsite bystander intervention training •Provide outreach support - challenging harmful behaviour and identifying and responding to incidents of VAWG and all sexual assault and harassment •Offer confidential specialist crisis response and support in the event of an incident We have a team of specialists that lead our teams and tents and complex cases. We also have a team of amazing volunteers that all work across safeguarding and community support services, including but not limited to professionals working in: • Domestic Abuse • Sexual Violence • Drug and Alcohol • Homelessness • Social Care • Probation • Youth Work • Health • Mental Health We are gender informed, understanding that the prevalence of domestic abuse and sexual violence is men’s violence against women and girls. We understand people of all genders are at risk of harm, with different barriers to accessing support and reporting. We turn no one away and are able to provide gender specific spaces if required. We also provide industry specific training and consultation, equipping organisations in the statutory and private sector with the awareness and understanding to be able to support their staff and customers in the event of domestic abuse and sexual violence, pro-social bystander interventions, management training and internal policies.

Would bad weather keep you from going to a festival you have tickets for?? 👀 It was truly fantastic to kick off my festival season with Project 6 at Brockwell Park. The energy and excitement in the air were palpable as the live events industry roared back to life. Despite the hardship that the festival industry is experiencing we are still shaping up for an incredible season ahead! I managed to see Safer Spaces Now CIC Event Production Show 2024 Charity partner and the toilets provided by Site Equip. Access All Areas is gearing up to cover a wide array of events throughout the season. We want to hear from you! Please share your stories, experiences, and highlights so we can feature them in our weekly newsletter. Let's celebrate the return of live events together and make this season unforgettable. #Eventseason #liveevent #eventprof #EPS25 #FESTIVAL Saskia Robinson-Rising Gus Agostini Thinu Ganesalingam Access All Areas Magazine Joe Gallop Jonny Hammond We Organise Chaos Rinse Group

Multi Property Sales Leader for Bristol Marriott Royal and Delta Hotels by Marriott Bristol City Centre

This bank holiday weekend was slightly different to my normal ones as I was volunteering with the Safer Spaces Now CIC tent at Love Saves the Day Festival in #Bristol Safer Spaces is a community interest company that was set up to help educate and create a culture that confronts and prevents sexual violence, harassment and domestic abuse at festivals and events. The tents are set up as a welcoming safe space where people can come and hang out, use facilities and escape to some calmness and also provide a safe space for people to report incidents and get the professional support they need. Not only are there the tents we also go out as teams to educate and engage with the festival goers with the message to not be a bystander, to de-stigmatise talking about and reporting sexual violence. This weekend certainly made me wish there were safe spaces like this when I was a younger keen festival goer, it really is essential in providing a safer environment to make everyone’s festival experience a more enjoyable one. If anyone has any questions about Safer Spaces or maybe even feels like this is something they would like to get involved in please feel free to reach out to me. #Bristol #LSTD #LoveSavesTheDay #Festival #Summer #Volunteer

We thoroughly enjoyed this training session with Safer Spaces Now CIC yesterday at Loughborough University. A big thank you to Anna and Kelly at Safer Spaces for delivering the session and our team for being so engaging throughout

Our wider Management Team at Alliance Events had a brilliant training session with Safer Spaces Now CIC yesterday. The session was hugely beneficial and has educated our teams on sexual violence, harassment & domestic abuse at events. The session has also equipped our teams with the knowledge and skills to manage signs of abuse, how to escalate issues and identifying customers who need support. Alliance would strongly recommend Safer Spaces Now CIC training sessions to security teams across the events sector to ensure festivals and events are safe places for all

*Safer Spaces Training* On May 8th, Alliance is hosting Safer Spaces Now CIC to deliver a one day training session in our HQ at Loughborough University. The session will educate our Management & Support Team on sexual violence, harassment & domestic abuse at events before a busy summer season. This training is another step we can take to ensure festivals & events are safe places for all 🚫 We want to offer 5 spaces for Event Professionals on our network that would benefit from the training! If you're intersted in the session, please drop me an email on James@alliancemanagementgroup.co.uk for more information. Alliance Management Group

Content warning - Autistic girls face 3 x the risk of sexual assault.

I shift perspectives and provoke deep thoughts | Autism, Mental Health, Disabilities

A recent study of 4,500 Swedish twins found that girls with autism from ages 9 to 18 years were THREE times as likely to experience sexual assault when compared to their neurotypical counterparts. [1] Studies also suggest that NINE out of ten autistic women have been victims of sexual violence. [2] Additionally: ❗ Just 3% of sexual abuses involving people with developmental disabilities are ever reported. ❗Approximately 80% of women and 30% of men with developmental disabilities have been sexually assaulted – half of these women have been assaulted more than TEN times.[3] ❗A 2012 report by the National Council on Disability in the United States found that people with disabilities, including those with IDD, experience sexual assault at a rate SEVEN times higher than people without disabilities. ❗Among women with intellectual disabilities the rate increases to about TWELVE times the rate of women without intellectual disabilities. It frustrates me that for all the awareness out there about autism and disabilities, the "dark stuff" doesn't get talked about. Why? I mean, my life expectancy, being autistic, is 16 years shorter than the average human. The suicide rate in our communities is outrageous. I am more likely to be incarcerated, unemployed, impoverished, isolated, assaulted, taken advantage of...I could go on and on! And this is coming from a straight white guy. As March is Developmental Disabilities Month, and as Autism Awareness Month approaches, I hope we talk about more than just how "awesome" autism is, and that we should all have disability pride. 1 Childhood neurodevelopmental disorders and risk of coercive sexual victimization in childhood and adolescence – a population-based prospective twin study 2 Evidence That Nine Autistic Women Out of Ten Have Been Victims of Sexual Violence 3 People with Disabilities and Sexual Assault – Weiss #autism #disabilities #developmentaldisabilities #autismawareness
