  • Meet Emma Hodges, a 28-year-old who endured months of misdiagnosis and multiple surgeries before receiving the life-changing diagnosis of sarcoma. Emma was repeatedly told that a growing lump in her groin was an abscess, a blood clot, or a cyst – but it was actually a cancerous sarcoma tumour. Due to its rarity, even further tests couldn’t confirm the exact subtype, though it was diagnosed most closely as a soft tissue Ewing sarcoma. Despite the challenges, including 14 rounds of chemotherapy and major surgery, Emma is now cancer-free and raising awareness about the importance of early and accurate diagnoses. Emma's story highlights the vital need for more awareness of sarcoma among both the public and healthcare professionals. Read more at https://lnkd.in/eGZJGg-j

  • "When you wake up, think about those people you really love and really enjoy spending time with. And make that your aim. Don't go fighting for money and things and stuff. It's all about people and about love." – Darrell McDonald Sarcoma UK are deeply saddened by the death of Darrell McDonald, an extraordinary advocate and the Roger Wilson Inspiration of the Year award recipient at the 2024 Shining Star Awards. Diagnosed with synovial sarcoma on his 40th birthday, Darrell turned his experience into a mission—raising awareness, pushing for earlier diagnosis, and supporting others through his book Straight Red?, which continues to fund vital sarcoma research. Despite undergoing intensive treatment, Darrell remained a passionate voice in our 2024 Sarcoma Awareness Month campaign, sharing his story to highlight the urgent need for better sarcoma recognition. His advocacy extended to improving GP training, ensuring future patients receive earlier diagnoses. We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Amy, children Maya and Theo, and all who loved Darrell. 💙 To read more, please visit https://lnkd.in/eVjRAN7N
