⛴️ 🛰️📡 Thousands of tourists and ferry travellers in Orkney are enjoying complimentary ultra-fast internet access as part of a first-of-its-kind, public sector-funded pilot project operating on three Orkney ferries in northern Scotland. This advanced satellite-based service, enables passengers to download movies, stream music, shop online, browse the web and work whilst on the move - essentially replicating the same connectivity they have at home. This pilot is funded by The Scottish Government and managed by our Digital Connectivity team in partnership with Orkney-based CloudNet IT Solutions Ltd, Orkney Islands Council, Orkney Ferries and Highlands and Islands Enterprise. Across Scotland, 1 in 4 homes are social housing properties. To achieve Scotland’s net zero targets, many of them will need both the retrofit of clean heating technologies (such as heat pumps or connection to heat networks) and improvements to energy efficiency. The investment needed to deliver this across the sector will be a significant challenge where support from the private sector is needed.
