🎆🐾 Help Keep Animals Safe During Fireworks 🐾🎆 Animals have extremely sensitive hearing, and the loud bangs and whistles from fireworks can cause them distress. Fireworks can be scary for pets and wildlife, but there are ways to help them feel safe! Now is the best time to make sure your pet's microchip details are up to date, so should the worst happen and they are spooked you can be reunited. For Dogs: Choose a quiet room where they can feel comfortable, and fill it with their favourite toys and chews like stuffed Kongs. Putting on calm music will drown out the background noise of those loud and scary fireworks! For cats: Provide hiding spots and let them stay there until they're ready. Keep them indoors to avoid stress. Calm music will also help our feline friends! For small animals: Partly cover outdoor pens, provide cozy bedding, and consider bringing them indoors. For horses: Plan ahead, talk to event organizers, and follow advice from the British Horse Society (BHS). Firework phobia is treatable! Speak to your vet for help. For more information please visit our website - https://lnkd.in/dFSj__6 Let's work together to keep animals safe this firework season! 🎇💜 #PetSafety #FireworkSafety #AnimalWelfare #BonfireNight #ScottishSPCA #SSPCALeadingTheWay #RescueProtectLead

🦅 Wildlife Wednesdays! Rescuing & Rehabilitating Gannets 🦅 Recently we have had an influx of juvenile Gannets come into our care and our team has been working tirelessly to make sure we can get them back out into the wild. Caring for injured or stranded gannets is a delicate process that starts with a thorough check for injuries, malnourishment, and dehydration. Immediate care, such as wound treatment, fluid therapy, and warmth, is crucial to stabilising the bird. Gannets often need antibiotics, pain relief, and cleaning from contaminants like oil or fishing lines. Their diet consists of fresh fish like mackerel and herring, (we use mackerel, herring, sprats and sand eels!) and weak birds may need to be hand-fed or tube-fed. As they recover, access to water for swimming is vital for their natural behaviours and feather maintenance. Gannets must rebuild their flight muscles and diving skills before they can be released near their natural habitat. Stress management is a top priority—gannets are highly sensitive to human interaction, so keeping noise and contact to a minimum is key for successful rehabilitation. With expert care, the goal is always to ensure they can return to the wild, strong and self-sufficient! 💪 🌊 #WildlifeRehab #GannetRescue #AnimalCare #SaveTheGannets #WildlifeWednesdays #ScottishSPCA #SSPCALeadingTheWay #RescueProtectLead

Scottish SPCA reposted this
We’ve just wrapped up an incredible trip, travelling over 400 miles to visit the Scottish SPCA and support their awesome work. 🙌🏴 Rescue is where we started, and it’s still at the heart of everything we do. During our visit, we fitted 34 dogs with custom muzzles and donated 23 more. It was amazing to see a variety of dogs, some trying muzzles for the first time, having fun and engaging with muzzle training. 💕 As a small, passionate team, we’re all about dogs' safety and comfort, and this visit reminded us of the lengths we’ll go to support rescues when they need us. 🤍 Please show your support by following Scottish SPCA – they’re doing an incredible job, and all rescues deserve our help! #SSPCA #TheMuzzleMovement

We have welcomed multiple puppies into our care this week after rescuing a host of pregnant dogs. Last week, we launched an urgent appeal to support 216 dogs saved in just ten days—the largest intake in our 185-year history. Now, the number of pups is growing as litters are born across our centres. 🐾 While we’re halfway to our fundraising goal, we urgently need your help to cover the rising costs of care. Each dog requires around £20 per day for basic needs, with veterinary treatments adding up quickly. Your support can make a world of difference for these animals. 💜 Our teams are working tirelessly to ensure the best care for the dogs and puppies, like Hank, Eddy, and Hatty, who receive round-the-clock attention. Please continue to share this story and support us in helping these animals. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a massive difference. Ariel's Miracle Comeback! 🤩 This young grey seal was found near death on a beach in Johnshaven, Montrose, tangled in fishing gear that had nearly decapitated her. She had life-threatening injuries and a deep neck wound, possibly suffering for up to three weeks before being rescued by a Scottish SPCA inspector. Ariel was rushed to our National Wildlife Rescue Centre at Fishcross, where our dedicated team worked tirelessly to save her. After months of round-the-clock care, including wound treatment, antibiotics, and hand-feeding, Ariel made an incredible recovery and reached a healthy 56kg weight. Our Wildlife Assistant Caitlin says: “Ariel was the worst entanglement case we’ve ever dealt with. It was heart-breaking to see the extent of her injuries all of which could have been avoided. Seals are particularly vulnerable to becoming entangled in fishing lines, nets and other debris. Once trapped they often suffer slow painful deaths as the gear tightens around their necks and bodies." Just a few days ago, we had the emotional joy of watching Ariel swim off into the wild, fully healed and ready to live freely once more. 🌊🦭 This rescue story is a reminder of the dangers that discarded fishing gear poses to wildlife. Let's all do our part to protect our oceans and the animals that call it home. We are urging people to clean up after themselves when out in our country and be responsible when fishing around the waters of Scotland. This really could save an animal’s life. 💜 #WildlifeRescue #SealsOfScotland #MarineConservation #SecondChanceAtLife #ProtectOurOceans #ScottishSPCA #SSPCALeadingTheWay
