What a fantastic way to highlight the strength and quality of Scottish seafood exports to the US. Last year’s numbers reflect not just impressive growth, but also the trust and demand for Scotland’s premium products in North American markets. Consul General David Clay MBE’s visit further underscores the strong transatlantic ties, and we look forward to seeing continued collaboration and success in the year ahead. 🌊🐟 #SeafoodScotland #ScottishSeafood #SENA2025 #SeafoodInnovation #SeafoodExcellence #SDI
That's a ton of fish! Or should we say 24,000 metric tons, which is how much salmon Scotland exported to the US last year. 📈 Seafood is Scotland's largest food export, with over 60 species available commercially. Last year the market reached an all-time high for Scottish salmon exports, including $291 million sold to the US. 💰 Consul General David Clay MBE visited Seafood Scotland at Seafood Expo North America/Seafood Processing North America to talk to Scottish companies Thistle Seafoods Ltd, Loch Duart Salmon, Wester Ross Fisheries Ltd, Whitelink Seafoods, and JK Thomson about their existing and growing presence in North American markets. Seafood Scotland’s Adam Wing recently attended Gulfood - The World's Biggest Annual F&B Event 2025 in Dubai, where we hosted four fantastic Scottish companies at our stand: Amity Fish Company Ltd, JK Thomson, Mowi, and Wester Ross Fisheries Ltd. We proudly showcased the finest Scottish seafood, reinforcing Scotland’s reputation for high-quality, sustainable produce. With Gulfood’s status as a global hub for innovation and premium ingredients, it was the perfect platform to connect our companies with key buyers, share valuable market insights, and strengthen Scotland’s presence in the UAE market. Beyond the stand, we featured a diverse range of species and products at a number of offsite events, working alongside our partners Scottish Development International, the Department for Business and Trade, and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. A fantastic event, great conversations, and exciting opportunities ahead for Scottish seafood! #SeafoodScotland #Gulfood #ScottishSeafood #TradeShows

Yesterday, we spent the day at the Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre Conference (IBioIC) 2025, where industry leaders, researchers, and innovators come together to discuss supply chains, cutting-edge research and how to overcome challenges in the sector. With 400 delegates across industry, academia and new markets, this event presents a prime opportunity for collaboration and a platform for CEO Donna Fordyce to call on support for the formation of a Scottish “ocean cluster” – a game-changing initiative designed to focus on creating a higher value from seafood “side stream” products and drive greater sustainability and profitability. Working alongside IBioIC, Zero Waste Scotland, Opportunity North East Limited and Aberdeenshire Council, the cluster aims to maximise the potential of Scotland’s seafood sector, just as other successful clusters have done globally, like Iceland Ocean Cluster. While attending, Donna chaired the “Creating Value Through Clusters” panel, drawing insights from Iceland’s success in this arena, and exploring how Scotland is preparing to follow suit. Thank you to Melanie Siggs, Alastair Kennedy - MIEx and Craig Sterling for their invaluable contributions to the discussion, and to Kim Cameron for facilitating the session. 🌊 One Month On: Scottish Seafood Ambassadors Scheme 🌊 It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a month since we held our first information session for the Scottish Seafood Ambassadors scheme! During those two initial sessions, we had the chance to connect with some incredible individuals passionate about the future of our seafood sector. Since then, we've continued to receive interest from those wanting to register, and to make the process as easy as possible, we’ve created a step-by-step guide to help get you started. If you’re already engaging with young people about careers in the seafood sector, we still encourage you to sign up! By doing so, we can get a clearer picture of who is reaching out to whom and identify any gaps where more support is needed. Those who sign up will play a key role in shaping the direction of our activities, help create resources that support engagement, and receive our support in return to elevate their work. Our ultimate goal is to build a connected network with a shared vision: to showcase the Scottish seafood industry as rewarding and exciting, full of career opportunities for the next generation🐟 Join us in making a lasting impact!
