I wanted to challenge that perception and change the way we see these subjects.” ✨ It’s #BritishScienceWeek and we’re celebrating the diverse people and careers in science and engineering. 🎥 Meet Hannah, a Methods Engineer on a Degree Apprenticeship with Laing O'Rourke, currently working on the Sizewell C project, which she says is her favourite project to date. From a young age, Hannah was drawn to maths and science. But she noticed the lack of female representation in these fields. Now, as a Degree Apprentice at Sizewell C, Hannah has gained confidence and found a supportive network of inspiring women who’ve played a pivotal role in her journey. 🚀 Thinking about a career in STEM? 🔬 A glimpse into the future of carbon removal — right here on the Suffolk coast. Fred Chung, Finance and Project Development Manager at Sizewell C, recently spoke to The Times about our ambitious plans to tackle carbon emissions using Direct Air Capture (DAC) — a pioneering technology that could be powered by low-carbon nuclear energy from Sizewell C. ❓ But what is Direct Air Capture? It works by extracting carbon dioxide directly from the air, helping to reduce greenhouse gases. While still in development, DAC holds huge promise in the fight against climate change — especially when combined with reliable, low-carbon power sources like nuclear energy. 💡 Why does this matter? The UK’s Climate Change Committee has set a bold target — an 87% emissions cut by 2040. Carbon removal will be key to achieving this, and DAC could be a game-changer. 🎥 As Abigail McNeil, Nuclear Business Graduate working on the project, says: “It’s so cool to know you’re part of something that’s genuinely going to make an impact.” At Sizewell C, we’re proud to be leading the way in innovation across the energy landscape — from nuclear power to Direct Air Capture. This year, we’re marking a major milestone: 65% of our leadership team is now female, surpassing the nuclear industry’s 2030 diversity target. 🎥 Representation matters. 🚗 🌊 We’re excited to announce a £43K donation to provide free parking at Sizewell Beach for the next year! A local favourite, Sizewell Beach, offers stunning views, the Sizewell Tea café, and a haven for nature lovers, cold swims, and off-lead dog walks. 🐕 We look forward to seeing more people enjoy Sizewell Beach while protecting ecologically sensitive areas such as Dunwich Beach, RSPB Minsmere, the National Trust Heath and Beach, and other local heathlands during the construction of Sizewell C. 🌊 The funding has been agreed by Sizewell C’s Ecology Working Group, which is made up of members from East Suffolk Council, Suffolk County Council, Natural England, the Environment Agency and representatives from Suffolk Wildlife Trust and RSPB. 🌿 💬 Dr Steve Mannings, Sizewell C’s DCO Delivery Lead and member of the Ecology Working Group, said: "This is another example of how we’re working hard to protect local wildlife. It’s also a great benefit to our local residents who use the beach."
