In our latest Project Update video 📽️, our Chief Executive Mark Wild sets out the importance of HS2, the challenges the programme faces and why we must reset: https://lnkd.in/eRs--iZd The prize is clear: better journeys 🚄 and economic growth 📈. Mark’s reset will establish a new realistic cost estimate and schedule, and a higher-performing organisation and supply chain. We will work with the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom and our construction partners to put HS2 back on track. The scale of HS2 means we need to take time to do the reset properly over the next year. While we reset, we will maximise construction productivity in 2025. We've already completed over 75% of HS2's tunnels, which will stretch across 32 miles between London and Birmingham. And our key viaducts, bridges, embankments and cuttings continue to take shape. The economic benefits of HS2 are already visible. Regeneration around Old Oak Common station will provide 22,000 new homes 🏠 and 18,000 jobs 👷 👩💼. Combined investment in West Midlands and West London is projected to add £20 billion to the economy over the next decade. Just like the Elizabeth Line, HS2 will prove its worth. HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd reposted this
Last week, myself and a group of volunteers got together to run a tree planting session at our Northern Sustainable Placement Area (NSPA) as part of a volunteer day. We were successful in planting over 500 trees. The trees are being planted to help landscape four mounds, which together measure 70 acres, and create woodland habitats in a site used to re-use the arisings from the construction of the Copthall Tunnel. The trees will improve the ecology of the area as the soft landscaping design is structured to expand woodland and grassland habitats across the site from neighbouring woodland/grasslands. This benefit is used to help offset areas of the project where habitats are removed that cannot be replaced, supporting a commitment to 'no-net-loss' of biodiversity across the HS2 project.

In our latest update video, our Chief Executive Mark Wild sets out the challenges facing the HS2 programme and outlines our focus for this year to reset HS2. Watch the update video below👇 https://lnkd.in/eW-f7wmy
I’m just over 3 months into my role as Chief Executive of HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd and I’m pleased to share my first project update video. 🎥 We now have a 31,000-strong workforce working across a 140-mile route to build the railway, with precision engineering and iconic structures. The prize is clear: better journeys and economic growth. However, as I told the Public Accounts Committee in December, the project faces serious challenges. Costs are rising, and the construction schedule has fallen behind. HS2 needs a reset, as Crossrail did in 2018. There, I found a programme that, like HS2, had incredible engineering but had lost its way. The programme had fallen out of sequence, costs were rising, and the schedule was broken. Today, the Elizabeth line is a resounding success, and one day, HS2 will prove its worth too. But to get there, HS2 will need a new, realistic cost and schedule and a higher-performing organisation and supply chain to break the cycle of delays and cost increases. In this video, I outline our focus this year to get HS2 back on track. We have a roadmap for the reset and are working with our partners and the Department for Transport to set a new cost and delivery schedule, improve our supply chain relationships, and build a fitter HS2 Ltd organisation. I'll keep you updated on our progress throughout the year. Watch the video on our YouTube channel 👉
