We are delighted to be supporting the Five Client Carbon Commitments of simple, practical steps that organisations can take to show they are reducing their carbon emissions and by when. The five commitments are:- 1. Procure for low carbon construction and provide incentives in our contracts. 2. Set phase out dates for fossil fuel use. 3. Eliminate the most carbon intensive concrete products. 4. Eliminate the most carbon intensive steel products. 5. Adopt PAS 2080, Carbon Management in Infrastructure, as a common standard. We were delighted to welcome Dame Priti to our head office in Earls Colne, in her Essex constituency, to discuss our 13-year involvement with HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd, and our work on other major infrastructure projects across the UK. Her visit gave us the opportunity to discuss the importance of HS2 to our business as well as the wider challenges and opportunities facing the industry, not least skills development, which she discussed with a selection of our trainees and apprentices from HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd and Sizewell C. 🌟 What a Busy Week Celebrating National Careers Week! 🌟 Last week was incredibly rewarding. We kicked off with Sizewell C and DWP Careers Fair, aiming to recruit local talent for the project. It was fantastic to see around 400 enthusiastic individuals exploring new career opportunities. Midweek, we shifted our focus to Aylesbury, where we supported the Eiffage Kier Ferrovial BAM (EKFB) team at the Bucks Skills Show. Over two days, we engaged with over 5,000 people, offering career inspiration and guidance to those considering a career change. Retracing my steps today as I supported Blackwell Earthmoving Limited EKFB/HS2 C23 team and Ashly Ellis at the Bucks Skills Show in Aylesbury. Fabulous also that our graduate engineer Megan Grass volunteered to help and spent the day offering advice and enthusiasm to students on a career in civil engineering and construction. Blackwell also offering use of our plant simulator to budding excavator operators. My first attempt would probably have got me a red card and written off the tipper body I was loading but thankfully only a video game. The Bucks Skills Show is a countywide careers fair for schools and college students (and parents) with around 5000 attending each year across the 2 day event. Great also to catch up with past colleagues Leigh Goodwin MCInstCES and Panos Pitrakou representing the Galliford Try SEALR team.

We are delighted to support the Women in Construction Week!   Women play a vital role in our workforce, and we are keen to offer more career opportunities for women at Blackwell Earthmoving, so much so, we have launched our 25 in 25 campaign with a pledge to increase our female workforce to 25% this year.   There are a wide range of roles available, ranging from Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Plant Operators, Machine Controllers, and Project Managers at all levels.   For more information, contact careers@blackwellearth.co.uk.

Final Preparations and Readiness Reviews are underway this week as we approach the start of the 2025 earthworks season on HS2 C23 at Blackwell Earthmoving Limited Next Monday our large fleet of big excavators, big dump trucks and a supporting cast of dozers, rollers and graders (and lots of people to operate and supervise) get back to work. A target of over 4M m3 (circa 8M tonnes) of soil, earth, rock and aggregate to dig, haul and place as the new railway formation comes together. A fascinating project and fantastic team to be part of.
