At the end of last year, DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) published its Simpler Recycling regulation with the aim of driving consistency and raising England’s performance in recycling across businesses and homes. These regulations will be coming into force for businesses from 31st March 2025 (31st March 2027 for micro businesses) and for homes from 31st March 2026. Our own Samantha Neath is taking the reins as Group Chair for the new Culture & Inclusion Action Group, delivered by Environment Analyst. This new initiative from EA’s Sustainability Delivery Group aims to bring together DE&I specialists to make the environmental and sustainability consulting world a more diverse, inclusive, and welcoming place. The group has already identified five key aims, to: - share successes to build industry best practice in DE&I - collaborate to deliver DE&I events and educational resources - link respective employee networks, for sharing and collaboration - collectively outreach with communities, organisations and prospective recruits - support and deliver cross-industry research in DE&I Sam, Global Culture & Inclusion manager at SLR, said: "Our leaders all understand the importance of ensuring our industry represents the richness and diversity of society, and that we create an inclusive and welcoming place to work where everyone can thrive." On Day 2 of the field trip to DRDGold, Danie Otto, our Asset Transition and Closure Business Lead, provided valuable insights into the extensive studies conducted since 2005 for the development of a regional TSF.   Reported to be the largest lined facility of its kind in the world, the system’s scale and complexity were on full display as they also visited the construction site and observed the lining work currently underway.
