Let's talk social value maturity. If this describes your organisation, you are probably at Level 1. If you work in or with the public sector, there's a real risk you could be losing business and reputation. Social value is a core requirement for government contracts. And if you work in the private sector, you may not be attuned to the values of ethically focused customers and top talent. But don't worry, no-one starts at zero. Ask us about our 'Springboard' package to dramatically shift your maturity to the next level. It supports you to: - Understand and address your gaps - Establish best practice governance and commitments - Create a social value roadmap - Understand what social value means for your organisation, with 2 training modules included. - Achieve the Bronze Social Value Quality Mark, with the inclusion of fully-guided support. If you understand your social value position, you can use it to propel your progress, maximise your positive impact and unlock competitive advantage. That's why we've introduced 3 packages designed to identify and dramatically shift your social value position. Each package moves you to a new level of social value maturity. And if you're thinking of becoming accredited, each package also aligns with the Social Value Quality Mark - the UK's national standard for social value. So what?, you might ask. Clients who are advanced on their social value journey tell us that: > They are winning bids and achieving higher scores in tenders. > They have greater credibility with investors and shareholders, with a stronger narrative about their impact. > Their culture has become more engaging, diverse and collaborative. > They have a deep understanding of how they create value for staff, customers and communities - which is in turn supporting sustainable growth. Find out more about our structured packages here: https://lnkd.in/ePRa98q2 #SocialValue #ESG #SocialImpact #SVQM

Today, on the UN International Day of Education, we recognise the transformative power of education in building sustainable and resilient societies. This year's theme, "AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation," highlights the critical role of education in navigating the challenges and opportunities presented by artificial intelligence. Here are a few ways that organisations can engage with education and skills as part of their social value and ESG strategies: - Support STEM programmes: Partner with schools and organisations to provide resources, mentorship, and internships in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This helps equip students with the skills needed for future jobs and creates a future talent pipeline. - Promote lifelong learning: Encourage continuous learning and development for employees. Offer training programmes, workshops, and access to online courses to foster a culture of growth and innovation. Many of our larger clients have developed training academies to build skills at scale. - Invest in community education: Collaborate with local educational institutions to support community education initiatives. This could include funding scholarships, building educational facilities or providing technology access to underserved areas. - Integrate Social Value into procurement: Ensure that your procurement processes prioritise suppliers who demonstrate a commitment to social value, such as those offering apprenticeships, supporting local economies, or promoting sustainability. Create a Supply Chain Charter to help with this. - Integrate social enterprise into your supply chain: Working with social enterprises stretches your impact further, by creating opportunity for disadvantaged or marginalised communities. One example is the excellent partnership between Social Value Quality Mark CIC and The Workshop Aberfeldy, suppliers of the SVQM trophies. This social enterprise supports isolated people in rural Scotland to acquire skills in manufacturing, woodcraft and customer service. - Volunteer time to educational charities: consider local need and work with community groups to lend core skills - such as support with literacy, numeracy, digital inclusion and more. Where possible, link it to your core business operations and the strengths and skills of your employees. Education has the power to create a brighter, more equitable future. We’ve dug ourselves into a pretty big hole Metaphorically speaking that is —when it comes to understanding value. Recently, I was in a meeting when it hit me: as a society, we do not instinctively know what value truly is. Too often, value is mistaken for price. Isn’t that crazy? I say this as someone whose job is to help companies measure their value to society (social value). Every day, we have the opportunity to make value-based decisions. Yet, the reality is that we often revert to price because, in the short term, it feels like we’ve won. The depth of this hole is significant, affecting everything from how we make personal purchasing decisions to how our countries draft policies and laws. Next month, the Procurement Act is set to launch, and I see it as a small but important step toward digging ourselves out. By shifting the focus from the Most Economically Advantageous Tender (MEAT) to the Most Advantageous Tender (MAT), the government is taking a step toward prioritising value over price in its buying decisions. I’m hopeful, but real progress will depend on how we, as individuals, redefine value in our everyday lives.

Head of Impact Practice at Impact Reporting; Social Value Associate; NED; MeasureUp Programme Director
My team and I have just spent the last 2 days at #BBS25 The Better Business Summit 2025 set up and run by the amazing The Better Business Network lead by the indomitable 👩🏻💻Hannah Cox I was extremely humbled to be nominated for Pioneer of the year by my Impact Reporting colleagues, and supported so enthusiastically by the wonderful Hattrick | B Corp™ certified, for the (absolutely team effort) work of MeasureUp . And then even more shocked to have actually been chosen for the shortlist especially alongside such amazing other finalists. Michelle Miles 💚 Isabel Mack Heather Davies what a treat to be recognised alongside you all. The society changing work you're doing shifting the wedding, party, and clothing industries and building the sharing community economy that we all need is so inspiring. And our Pioneer of the year Simon Hall truly embodying what it means to be a Pioneer (dictionary definition confirmed!) developing the first ever sustainably produced medical device. An industry shift that begs the question why on earth hasn't this happened sooner!? Can't wait to see Simon and Airways Medical grow and shift the industry as a whole over coming years. To be included in such strong company with such tangible changes to society is humbling. It is also massively encouraging. I've spent years with many social value colleagues puzzling over how to make social accounting, social and environmental valuation, impact measurement etc etc, fun, engaging, real, something that we can and should all own. It seems with MeasureUp and our first ever Social Value Top Trumps we might be taking a step forwards in breaking down the fuzzy curtain around valuing the things that matter. It's all of our wellbeing we're talking about so the value of that should sit with all of us. Thank you to the The Better Business Network for giving us the chance to share our work, and thanks to all those attending who engaged with it so enthusiastically. Matt Haworth Nilofer Khalifa
