☀️ Discover how Wigan & Leigh College in partnership with Shawton Energy are leading the way in sustainable energy! The college has teamed up with renewable energy experts, Shawton Energy, to install a 244 kWp solar panel system across three campuses. This impressive project not only reduces the college's carbon footprint and energy costs but also serves as a fantastic educational resource for students studying renewable technologies. Jamie Shaw; MD of Shawton Energy said: “The team at Wigan & Leigh College were so supportive throughout the journey – from initial conversations right through to the installation and commissioning of the project – which made the whole project an enjoyable experience. The project at Wigan & Leigh College really added value to our day-to-day work, as we’re funding a project that not only helps the College reduce its spend and carbon usage but, more importantly, educates its students as to why net zero and sustainability efforts are important.” Want to learn more about the benefits of solar for educational institutions? We're thrilled to share that the UK Government has announced a significant boost in support for solar energy! The budget for the sixth allocation round (AR6) of the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme has been increased to over £1.5bn—a 50% rise from the previous round. This increase includes a substantial uplift for established technologies like ground-mounted solar power, with funding rising from £120m to £185m (in 2011/12 prices). This move is a game-changer for the solar sector, enabling more projects to proceed, which in turn drives down carbon emissions and energy bills. As Chris Hewett, Chief Executive of Solar Energy UK, puts it: "The increased allocation should allow many more projects to go ahead, driving down carbon emissions and energy bills alike." #SolarEnergy #RenewableEnergy #GreenInvestment #CfD #SolarFarms #CleanEnergy
