Guests will be treated to a day of community and conversation, including keynote talks from Jonathan Walters , Kate Henderson, and Michael Appleby Independent East is an informal alliance of five community‐focused housing associations in the East of England including Broadland Housing Group Freebridge Community Housing Havebury Housing Partnership Saffron Housing Trust Limited and ourselves here at Orwell. Charity #MuseumofHomelessness has found that deaths among homeless people in the UK have risen by 12% in a year. Through research, it discovered 1,474 people died while homeless in the UK in 2023, up from 1,313 deaths recorded in 2022, with almost half (47%) of deaths where the cause of death was known involving alcohol, drugs and suicide: at least 38 people died by suicide. Our report revealed a picture of how communities fought loneliness, isolation and hardship last winter 🔗 bit.ly/4eCdFaJ 👨👩👧👦2,000+ people visited our Hot-Spots each week last winter. 🏘️110+ Hot-Spots provided a warm welcome 🪙Just £20 meant one person to attend a Hot-Spot all winter Norfolk faces unique challenges like rural isolation, older housing, and an ageing population, creating pockets of hidden deprivation. In response, we launched over 110 Community Hot-Spots in 2023/4, offering a lifeline to people across Norfolk. These warm, welcoming spaces reduce isolation and provide essential support, particularly in areas where resources are limited. As we approach winter 2024/5, the need for these Hot-Spots remains critical.
