SOLO HOUSING (EAST ANGLIA)

Many heat networks in social housing will require investment to meet forthcoming regulatory standards. There is currently grant funding available from the government through the Heat Network Efficiency Scheme (HNES) to support this. The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) is hosting a free event at the Birmingham Conference and Events Centre on Tuesday 17 September 2024 where housing associations can hear more about the grant scheme and support current and future applicants. Helping someone to find a safe home is only one part of our work to end homelessness for an individual. They also have to be able to sustain their tenancy. That can mean helping them to get a job, learn to read, get medical treatment or it can mean equipping them with life skills like managing a budget or learning to cook. Cookery classes at our Skylight in Croydon are always popular. The final one before summer break this year was CURRY! Specifically chicken and coconut curry, rice and a chapati - step aside Jamie Oliver. Classes are held in our training kitchen and are run by CALAT (Croydon Adult Learning & Training) and focus on teaching numeracy skills through cooking. Members have been loving the sessions so far and have made a really broad range of dishes from mushroom risotto to enchiladas. They will be returning in a couple of months time in September. We’ve helped prevent more than 160 households in West Suffolk from becoming homeless in the past year. But prevention isn’t always possible which is why we are continuing to invest in more temporary accommodation. We’ve just completed work on two properties in West Suffolk which will help to support homeless families. It represents an investment of more than £730,000. Over the past year we’ve worked to support 190 households in temporary accommodation to secure a new home, lifting them out of homelessness.
