Last night, we had an incredible panel discussion on gender bias in AI, co-hosted by Speechmatics and Cambridge Women In Tech. Our event sparked engaging conversations about the challenges and opportunities ahead in making AI and speech technology more inclusive 🙌   💡 Key Takeaways: - We kicked off with insights from our recent Speechmatics Hackathon, highlighting the real-world impact of gender bias in AI. Our findings demonstrated that while progress is being made, there is still much to be done to improve representation and accuracy across different genders in AI systems. - The panel, featuring Bella Taylor, Benedetta Cevoli, Lauren King, and Teri Drummond, moderated by Katherine Codlin, brought diverse perspectives to the discussion. From personal experiences with AI bias to the technical root causes, we explored how biased data and algorithmic decisions contribute to gender bias in speech and AI systems. - Our panelists shared how Speechmatics is addressing these challenges by focusing on inclusive data practices and fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion. We also discussed what other companies can learn from our approach and how the broader tech community can take action. - The event concluded with powerful reflections on how individuals and companies can work together to reduce gender bias in AI, with the panelists offering advice to women entering the tech industry: stay curious, drive change, and be a voice for equality in AI development. 👥 Thank you for everyone who attended and contributed to such an impactful discussion!
