AHPs and OTs …Your voice is needed. Liz Fletcher and Lisa Westhorpe proudly represented the MovingOTs community at the Active Wellbeing – A Movement for Change network session (contact Julie Russell) . They brought the occupational therapy perspective into a powerful cross-sector conversation about how we can reimagine systems to better support population health and reduce health inequalities. The network brings together leaders from across leisure, sport, health, local government and community settings—creating space to explore what’s working, what needs to change, and how we lead that change together. We’d love to see more Allied Health Professionals, involved in this growing movement. These sessions offer a real opportunity to influence, connect, and collaborate with others committed to preventative, inclusive approaches to health and wellbeing. If your work is grounded in population health, inclusion, or prevention—this is a space where your leadership is not just welcome, but needed. Let’s make sure AHPs are part of shaping what comes next. #AHP4Change #MovingOTs #OccupationalTherapy #AHPLeadership #ActiveWellbeing #SystemsLeadership #PopulationHealth #PublicHealth #Inclusion #HealthInequalities #CommunityOfPractice #AHPsIntoAction #MovementForChange

Great to meet with our current and former Teesside University occupational therapy apprenticeship students, Emma Brown and Felicity Kyte, in the sunshine last week to talk all things physical activity in occupational therapy practice! Emma and Felicity are/were both involved in leisure centre placements supported by Sport for Confidence CIC at Darlington Borough Council leisure facilities, using their occupational therapy skills and focus on meaningful movement to support those furthest away from physical activity. During her placement last summer, Felicity set up a boccia group for adults with learning disabilities and complex needs (no mean feat given that she had only 7 weeks to identify community needs, organise the group and recruit participants!). Her project was used as the basis for an application for the Sport England Movement Fund (big thanks to Jon Ainsworth for his work on this) to ensure the group could be sustained. We recently found out that the application was successful, which was perfect timing for Emma to support with setting up the group as an ongoing initiative during her placement. So, we have an ask for the good people of LinkedIn today… We have funding for Boccia England training to support leisure centre and social care staff to run the group. We’d love to hear from any #AdultSocialCare staff in the #TeesValley area who’d be interested in receiving online boccia leaders award training (for free!). Can anyone help us with connections here? Really exciting to see how physical activity pathways are being developed across health and social care, focusing on those furthest away from meaningful movement 🥳 Thanks to Sean O’Connell for supervising Emma on her placement, and Sam Studdert for long arm supervision support 💪 Emma and I will be at the Boost Learning and Improvement Community event today showcasing collaboration across the Tees Valley area to embed physical activity within healthcare professional education - come and say hi if you’re attending 👋 Dawn Drury Geoff Downes Liv Johnson Royal College of Occupational Therapists #PhysicalActivity #PlayYourPart #HealthInequalities Alt text: Lisa, Emma and Felicity are smiling in the sunshine with their sunglasses on, taking advantage of last week’s nice weather and planning the boccia group.
