  • 🌍 It takes a diverse, hard-working team to run the electricity system that keeps you connected today, and which will power us all to our shared #netzero future.  ⚡ You’ll probably know us as the people who work 24/7 to keep your lights on, but we do so much more than that. Our role is growing every single day, as we work to deliver a smart, fair, clean, electricity distribution system. 👋 We’ll let the members of #teamssen take it from here, to tell you a bit more about us, and how you are at the very heart of what we do.  Fancy coming to join them? Check out our latest vacancies at careers.sse.com

  • 👷 For safety's sake, only fully-trained and kitted-out experts are permitted into our substations. So Craig from our contract partners Keltbray Infrastructure Services did the right thing earlier this week, helping this young cygnet, who ended being an accidental trespasser! 🦢 Our Christchurch substation backs onto an area of water, and this wee soul appeared to have lost its way. But one call to the local wildlife rescue centre later, and our feathered friend was safely escorted from the premises.   ⚠️ Please always stay well away from our substations, and if you spot anything amiss, call us free on 105 and we’ll respond. #ssencommunity #safetyfirst

  • ⚡ We’ve now successfully switched the electricity supply for residents of Papa Stour to the recently-installed replacement subsea cable between the island and Mainland Shetland. 🤝 This switching was successfully carried out earlier this week, and the mobile generators which had been supplying homes and businesses on Papa Stour while these works progressed have now been disconnected. Plans are now underway to remove this equipment from the island. ❤️ We’d like to thank Papa Stour’s residents for their patience while we carried out these works as safely and quickly as possible. #ssencommunity #subsea

  • Take part in shaping the future of British Common Information Models (CIM) 🏅 Alongside other British Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) we will be testing the interoperability of our new Long-Term Development Statement (LTDS) in a Common Information Model (CIM) format, to understand how systems produce and receive this data. Interoperability is important so that DNO’s network data is published in a consistent format making it easier for stakeholders to consume and use. The availability and interoperability of data across the energy sector will be a vital enabler to Britain’s journey to Net-Zero. 🧪 We want to invite interested parties who are keen to join the test and take part in shaping the future of our networks and systems. If the data is readable by your system this will benefit your ability to observe the network and how you connect with it. 📧 To take part, all you need to do is send an email to digitalisation@energynetworks.org with your system of choice. Let's collaborate for a more connected and efficient interoperable energy landscape.

  • 👋 We’re all set up at Fareham College to support the award-winning i-Construct 2024 event, organised by the Hampshire Construction Training Association (HCTA)! This year, students aged between 7 and 11 are being tasked with researching how to build a new Nightingale Hospital. ⚡ Large Capital Delivery Project Manager Freddie and Strategic Project Liaison Lead Charlie are here to answer any questions about power before they present to the judging panel. 👷♀️ We love inspiring young people to pursue careers in the Built Environment or Civil Engineering sectors. #iConstruct #CommunityImpact #STEM #SSEN #FutureEngineers #InspiringYouth #LiveEvent

  • 🦫 ICYMI! Have you ever wondered how we safely and securely install electricity cables under a riverbed? If so, read on!   ⚡We’re currently carrying out a £4.1m upgrade to the local electricity network in Aberdeen, with part of the cable route taking in the Granite City’s famous River Don. Our teams are working with Nicol Of Skene Ltd to install three new cables underneath the actual river bed using a Horizontal Directional Drill – by taking this direct route below the Don, it means we can keep disruption to a minimum for homes, businesses and road-users in the local area.   🍿We visited the teams on site recently to learn more about this fascinating piece of kit – we hope enjoy our video and find the drill as exciting as we did! • 🏆 Our central southern England Operations Team have been named as the winners in the 'Performance Improvement in the Private Sector' category at this year's Management Consultancies Association awards. 🥇 The award judges singled us and our partners PwC UK out for "increasing capability, sustainability, and performance...leading to an improvement of 30% in company productivity, meaning that customers now get faster quotes and network connections." ⚡ As a network operator, we're growing and evolving rapidly, with a lead role in creating an electricity system that's fit for #netzero. We're investing unprecedented sums in your grid to make this happen. 🤝 Everyone at #teamssen working really hard to make even more improvements to the services we provide for all our customers, and this recognition encourages us to keep on making progress.
