Strengthening UK-Ireland energy collaboration 🇬🇧 🇮🇪 Last week’s inaugural UK-Ireland Summit in Liverpool saw our Chief Commercial Officer, Martin Pibworth, join a business roundtable with the Prime Minister Keir Starmer and An Taoiseach Micheál Martin, reinforcing the shared commitment to closer collaboration on energy. To build on this momentum, in partnership with the British Embassy Dublin, we hosted an evening of discussion about the tangible next steps needed to move the dial on the strategic energy partnership between the two countries. The event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and key stakeholders, with remarks from the British Ambassador to Ireland, Paul Johnston, and Minister Timmy Dooley. Our Chief Financial Officer Barry O'Regan reaffirmed our commitment to partnering with both the British and Irish Governments to help tackle common challenges of achieving net zero, improving energy security, and energy affordability. An expert panel made up of Oonagh Buckley, Secretary General, Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications; Sue Harrison, Head of European Energy Markets, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero; Colm Devine, Partner and Power & Utilities Leader UK&I, EY and Noel Cunniffe, CEO, Wind Energy Ireland explored how policy-makers and industry alike can work together to turn ambition into action. 🤝 #UKIESummit

With the clock ticking on the Government’s Clean Power Mission, now is the time to turbocharge investment in homegrown energy, accelerate renewables and rewire Britain. To reach the finish line, the private and public sectors must run together and ramp up investment to achieve the Government's 2030 Clean Power target. 🎯

As we continue to celebrate International Women's Day, we've had the privilege of connecting with some incredible women here at SSE. Eleanor Lawton is an Offshore Civil Engineer at SSE Renewables, but she is also using her skills and determination to drive change within the energy industry. She is a shining example for young girls all over Scotland, breaking gender stereotypes as she paves the way for future generations. Watch the video below to hear from Eleanor 👷♀️📹 Let's continue to #AccelerateAction towards a brighter future for women. #IWD2025

It's International Women's Day (IWD) tomorrow!♀️🎉 IWD is a day dedicated to achieving gender equality, celebrating women's achievement, raising awareness about discrimination and taking action to forge gender parity. And we are doing all of that! But, we also know that there is an elephant in the room. We have a gender pay gap. Since we started our inclusion and diversity journey, a lot has changed at SSE for the better, but we know that the journey isn't over yet. This is why we're not shying away from our shortcomings; we're tackling them head-on and being completely transparent along the way. But, we're also celebrating just how far we've come, all the effort made by our wonderful teams and the amazing women at SSE! And in the spirit of inclusivity, we've also disclosed our Republic of Ireland median gender pay gap. In 2022, the GPG was 26%, but as of our 2024 reporting dates, it was down to 18.6%. #IWD2025 #AccelerateAction #InternationalWomensDay

Zonal Pricing - good for customers or a shuffle of costs creating a postcode lottery? Last week I posed 5 “starter tests” to think about zonal pricing from the business customer perspective. Thank you to those who commented and have been in touch with me. What is clear is that no one was able to get past test 2. Ryan Thomson shared that many of his clients are asking the same question. So as we consider the demand-side and customer angle to this debate, what do we know?💡 1️⃣ As @LCP Delta have pointed out, 97% of demand across the country will see higher wholesale electricity prices – bar the North of Scotland. 2️⃣ As Johnny Gowdy and Adam Bell point out shielding is not straightforward. And as yet we know policymakers haven’t landed on shielding options if any. 3️⃣ Zonal pricing won’t begin until 2032 at the earliest. Most businesses won’t know what zone they are in and how this will affect their running costs. So leaves businesses in an impossible position trying to work out what this means for them? This very point has been clearly stated in the two open letters sent by UK Steel and key other trade associations on the demand side including British Glass FDF and Ceramics UK We are very keen to work with policymakers and use the 5 “starter tests” to consider what this means for businesses. Having a flexible working arrangement in place brought a lot of relief for Stephen, a Delivery Lead here at SSE. Working flexibly means he is still able to deliver on work commitments and is also able to support his son better with homeschooling. 📚 You can learn more about SSE's Flexible First policy as well as hear from more of the team sharing their stories in the link in the comments below 🔗 ⬇️
