National Grid reposted this
Earlier this summer, our team uncovered FOUR roundhouses along with a whopping 14 kilos of artefacts during the 'North Wessex Downs Visual Impact Provision' project for National Grid in Wiltshire. Along with iron slag and a bone weaving tool, we found a whole lot of pottery, some of which had been carefully decorated with fingernail impressions. We suspect the site may be connected to the nearby Roundway Hillfort, once an impressive and imposing Iron Age settlement. ⚱️ 👷♀️ One sherd in particular bears curiously crude doodles. Were these first attempts? Or were these markings made by a child? These finds are now in the hands of our specialists for further analysis. Matt, who led the dig, told us all about it. 👇
