Ahead of #RemembranceDay, #HighWycombe resident Michael received a Nuclear Test Medal for his service 65 years ago, on Christmas Island. This was one of the locations where the UK atmospheric nuclear tests were conducted. #Army veteran Michael recalled standing at "ground zero" of an explosion. He described the ground as "glass and clinker, like the interior of an old burnt-out coke stove.” His daughter Sarah added "During his time on Christmas Island, he was distressed to see the impact of the tests close up, and he often spoke of his relief that no more tests were carried out there.” Read more here: bit.ly/NuclearTestMedal

Today's the day! We'll be heading to the Nursing Times Awards ceremony in London to find out if we've won in the category 'Nursing in Social Care'. We were shortlisted earlier this year for the work of our non-medical prescribers in #Solihull. Non-medical prescribers are healthcare specialists who can assess, diagnose, and prescribe certain medications within their scope of practice. Fingers crossed! 🤞 #NTAwards

October marks #BlackHistoryMonth. The theme for this year's celebration is ‘Reclaiming Narratives’, which aims to shine a light on stories about black people and black culture that are often overlooked. In recent years, the month has expanded to include the stories of African, Asian and Caribbean peoples. We looked at the stories of #RAF veteran and #Surbiton resident, Suhail as well as #HighWycombe resident Felicia. Director of Care & Wellbeing, Shirley Hall said: “Each story is special and unique and should be celebrated, and it’s a privilege to share these during Black History Month.” Read more about their stories and how we're celebrating Black History Month in our Homes here: bit.ly/BHMStories2024

Today marks #WorldFoodDay! 🍽️ Residents across our Homes love to bake, cook and create a wide variety of foods, to enjoy and share with others. These activities are great for their #wellbeing and helping to continue their passions and hobbies when coming to live with us. Enjoying food and socialising at mealtimes is also an essential part of the care we deliver. Our Chefs make delicious home-cooked meals every day to support residents' health and nutrition 🥕
