Volunteer vets & nurses provide free essential vet care to the pets of those experiencing homelessness across the UK
About us
StreetVet was born in 2016, inspired by the incredible bond between a homeless man and his dog! Victims of the UK homelessness epidemic often have scant support, except for, in a growing number of cases, the companionship of their pets. Many have had their pets since before experiencing homelessness. Others had the responsibility of pet ownership thrust upon them. Irrespective, the bond between many homeless people and their pets is profound, such that their animals wellbeing is a life-shaping priority. Our ever-increasing number of volunteers help, by outreaching nationally in 24 locations across the UK providing free accessible fundamental vet care and services. StreetVet volunteer vets and nurses, work alongside other organisations and homelessness service providers, and operate in multiple communities across the UK weekly. Since inception, we have helped care for more than 2,800 pets, including dogs, cats, rabbits, bearded dragons, other small furies and a tortoise too! We take the practice to the pavement, anything that can be done in a consulting room our team of volunteer vets and veterinary nurses do on the streets. We vaccinate, microchip, treat for fleas and protect against lungworm, we prescribed pain relief and help fight infections, we take blood, test urine and sample lumps, and importantly sometimes we just sit and listen. Currently, many people experiencing homelessness face the impossible choice between a roof over their heads or giving up their best friend. The StreetVet Accredited Hostel Scheme launched in 2020 and offers support for hostels and temporary accommodation providers to adopt and implement positive pet policies. Benefits of the scheme include free vet care & pet essentials for registered pets, staff training on how to work with animals, comprehensive temporary accommodation pet policy, telemedicine platform for virtual vet appointments, emergency boarding to allow those to attend medical appointments as needed, behavioural support.

🌟 Support StreetVet’s Sahara Trekkers! 🌟 A team of 19 strong, brave, and compassionate #StreetVet volunteers and supporters have embarked on an epic 100km trek across the Sahara Desert, all in aid of StreetVet. 🏜️ Together, they have already raised an incredible £19,757! 🎉 But while they trek for the next 6 days, we need your help to raise at least another £5,000 to welcome them home with a HUGE thank you for their incredible efforts. 🙌 We will be following their journey and posting updates as we get them (if they get any signal in the middle of the Sahara Desert 😆), so watch this space. Donate now to support our Sahara Trekkers 2024 #FundraisingChampions by clicking HERE 👉https://lnkd.in/e_6X2xWu Let’s show our trekkers how much their dedication means to us and the pets of those experiencing homelessness that they help. It's #Halloween and fireworks season and as you can see one of our golden oldies Ruby is well prepared with her thundershirt! We understand that this can be an incredibly scary time of year for most animals, especially pets that are experiencing #homelessness with their owners who have no refuge to escape the bright lights and noises. This is why we have compiled a list of activities for you to try to ease the discomfort of your pets as well as some suggestions as to how you may be able to help other pets who are facing fireworks daily which you can read HERE in our winter blog series 👉 https://lnkd.in/eQM33ZcM #SupportStreetVet #HelpingOthers #PetInclusive #FireworksSeason #WinterBlogSeries #ScaredPets #Anxiety #Stress #Winter #Autumn

Don't miss #StreetVet Ambassador Dr. Sabrina Cohen-Hatton KFSM on ITV's 'Prince William: We Can End Homelessness' documentary tonight at 9pm. Sabrina is one of the nine Advocates for the Homewards Partnership and the programme tonight will discuss the reality of #homelessness across the UK and how Homewards is embarking on their mission to end homelessness. As an #AnimalCharity that supports the pets of those experiencing homelessness, this documentary touches our hearts deeply as we help to support those who have found themselves without a place to call home due to circumstances outside of their control. Those facing this harsh reality all have their own story, with many difference and varied circumstances and often a lack of support. The StreetVet Accredited Hostel Scheme works incredibly hard to enable more hostels and temporary accommodation providers across the UK to become pet-inclusive, and we are proud to share that we have accredited three hostels with Thames Reach in the Lambeth area, one of the locations that Homewards is focused in. The aim of the StreetVet Accredited Hostel Scheme is to protect the human-animal bond keeping pets and owners together wherever possible. The scheme supports hostel staff through education on the benefits of animal companionship, as well as providing pets and their owners with FREE veterinary care, food, and daily pet essentials. Together, we can all #ChampionChange by seeing homelessness as a life experience at a particular time rather than an identity. Change the way that you think TODAY to #makeadifference. We are incredibly grateful to have Sabrina as our StreetVet Ambassador, highlighting the issues through her own lived experience of homelessness with a pet. It was great to see our partners A Brush with Love at #StreetVets 7th Annual 'The Art of StreetVetting' Conference recently with their beautifully designed pet sympathy cards, which all support #StreetVet via donations through card sales. During the conference, the StreetVet team were able to vote on some special new card designs, which the Brush with Love team created specifically for StreetVet. We are all just ecstatic with the winning card design which a Brush with Love will very kindly be donating to all our StreetVet teams, who will be able to write a personal and touching message and distribute to their clients to help them to remember their best friends 💙 If you would like to support StreetVet and a Brush with Love then take a look at their sympathy cards HERE 👉 https://loom.ly/yqEryvg If you are a first-time customer, please use the code below with a minimum order of 3 packs of cards and £5 will be donated to StreetVet! #SupportStreetVet #AnimalCharity #Donate #HelpingOthers #PetInclusive #Partner #ABrushwithLove #Homelessness
