What is the role of the public sector architect in driving change? 💭 That's the question we asked earlier this week in our latest instalment of Shaping Future Places, hosted by Danny Harris, Caroline Mayes and Sophie Jarzebowski. Celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Department for Educations' Building Bulletins, guest speakers Jennifer Singer and Ian Naylor reflected on the 'development projects,' which continue to challenge and inspire the industry. They explored new approaches in setting standards and the longstanding role of the public sector architect to create a new generation of sustainable, user centred schools. Thank you to everyone who attended, as well as our speakers and hosts. #ShapingFuturePlaces #Bristol #Schools

Here's what happens when thoughtful landscape design is given time to flourish. 🌱➡️🌳 Dan Hutchinson and Isabelle Carter recently visited the Met Office Data Centre to see how their landscape design has evolved over eight years. Featured in a film by The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the team rediscover a space that nurtures pollinators, provides food for birds and bats, and contributes meaningfully to local wildlife networks. Senior Associate Architect Rachel Bremner caught up with Anna Highfield from Architects’ Journal recently to discuss our proposal for the Devonport House project. 📰 The proposal will transform a Grade II listed former naval hospital nurses’ home into a state-of-the-art teaching and community space for the University of Greenwich. This week, the Royal Borough of Greenwich unanimously voted to approve plans for the Devonport House Project 🎉 Our proposal will carefully transform a Grade II listed former naval hospital nurses' home into a state-of-the-art teaching and community space for the University of Greenwich. Working in collaboration with Purcell, we propose to restore many of the building’s period features, while a contemporary extension will sensitively connect to the original structure via a striking glazed atrium. Outside, new pedestrian routes will enhance connections to Greenwich Park, with green spaces that invite people to pause, gather, and reflect as they explore the Maritime Greenwich UNESCO World Heritage Site. We look forward to the next step in extending the life of this historic building for the next generation.
