Sharing knowledge through open research drives human progress both within and beyond the field of research – from informing policymakers to supporting innovation in product development, and encouraging the public to take an evidence-based approach to key issues. Policymakers recognize these benefits, and have created a policy landscape that has accelerated a transition to OA, a transition which began in Europe and is increasingly being adopted in the United States. One of the key drivers of this transition is Transformative Agreements (TAs) between publishers and institutions. In our new article, “Open access (OA) transformative deals in the US: Cross-functional partnerships and custom approaches,” we highlight Open Access case studies which feature or mention Taylor & Francis, in order to share these important insights and sum up what was learned. http://spr.ly/6047ma7eT #OpenAccess #ResearchImpact ALA Core American Library Association Rachel Scott Joe Lerro

Taylor & Francis, in partnership with the South African National Library and Information Consortium (SANLiC), participated in the ‘Academic Allies’ event in Johannesburg and Cape Town. The ‘Academic Allies’ forum underscored Taylor & Francis’ unwavering dedication to advancing research excellence in Southern Africa. (In photo, from left to right: Paras Verma, Gabriella Govender, Rajni Dhingra, Nitasha Devasar, Danoline Hanyane, Eleanor Souster, and Abhishek Bhardwaj.) A fundamental shift in Africa’s research visibility is underway. We are pleased to share that, in each of the last two years, the number of African open access articles in Taylor & Francis journals has grown by 20%. As their research becomes more available, African scholars are now better positioned to influence global development, drive policy changes, and foster societal progress through their work. Insects are essential to life on Earth. They are an indispensable part of the planet’s food chain, and they play critical roles in nutrient cycling, pest control, and pollination. Habitat loss, pollution, and climate change are just some of the reasons why insect populations are declining. Bringing together contributions from more than 120 experts around the world, The Routledge Handbook of Insect Conservation provides researchers, practitioners, and policymakers with practical solutions for this pressing problem. Today we are excited to announce two parallel pilot projects with DataSeer – an AI solution provider for open science – that will address the practical challenges of open research implementation. The first is a joint proof-of-concept pilot project aimed at improving the accuracy and speed of editorial data-sharing checks across a broad range of journals with varying policies. The second, an initial analysis of Open Science Metrics across a sample of 5,000 Taylor & Francis published articles. Together, the two pilots have the potential to increase data-sharing policy compliance, reduce the editorial workload, and provide business intelligence to help drive openness forward.
