📽 In 2021, we filmed a video podcast episode with Dr Christyl Johnson, from the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center! Little did we know 3 years later, we would be screening our documentary about Robotics and AI, with the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, at Columbia University. 🤯 The last few years have been incredible for Tech Talks. We speak to amazing people everyday, and as a result we now get to make films, screened at international events, and make lifelong connections that keep us up to date with the very best innovation happening in the industry. 🤩 👏🏽 Thank you to everyone that attended the event. Thank you to Brenna Barnett, Jason Pyle, Michael Goldberg and the whole Harvey Nash and NashTech team here in the USA for their support putting on our film screening and panel with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. 🚀 These events wouldn't be what they are without incredible speakers and collaborators like Dr Christyl Johnson and Omar Hatamleh, Ph.D., who led a fantastic discussion about how these issues really are affecting how we work! 👉🏽 The fun doesn't stop there, as today our film will be screened a little closer to home at Leeds Digital Festival, at an event hosted by Harvey Nash UK, all about how AI is transforming our society and workforce! 💸 ClearToken's technology blurs the lines between assets and cash... would you buy a coffee using the value of your phone? 🤔 In today's episode, David sits down with Benjamin Santos-Stephens and Steve Briscoe to explore how ClearToken's innovative technology is revolutionising the financial market! 🚘 🏡 ClearToken aims to create trust by acting as a clearing house and depository, allowing any asset to be represented as a token, meaning assets like real estate, cars, and even mobile phones to be transacted and lent against, significantly reducing borrowing costs and making credit more accessible. 🤑 In an age where the financial model just doesn't work for a lot of people, is this the answer? 👏 A fantastic representation of the tech industry and who our insights should be coming from! TechBBQ's focus on inclusion and diversity was a key contributor to why we wanted to head to Copenhagen this year and it has not disappointed! We learnt about TechBBQ's commitments to DE&I when we spoke to Head of Program Kay Michelsen who told us about the growth they have seen in the last few years and the impact of community on innovation! To hear more from Kay, be sure to check out her episode! 👇 https://lnkd.in/ejhp-34U
TechBBQ Maintain DEI Goals in 2024 With 51 % women and non-binary across the curated five main stages, TechBBQ is on par with its diversity, equity, and inclusion goals in 2024. The 12th edition of TechBBQ promises another star line-up of founders, speakers, investors, partners, politicians, media, and community leaders. But what tends to be the talk of the town is the stage composition and representation. With roughly 350+ stage speakers across the five main stages, over 51+ % are women and non-binary, while 51+ % are founders, including people who previously have been founders. Head of Program at TechBBQ, Kay Michelsen, responsible for curating the stage content and its final composition, is pleased to yet again have a balanced split as the tech industry historically has been male-dominated, and marked by a talent shortage of women and non-binary people. “It’s important to platform all voices who are shaping the startup ecosystem on stage because if we’re not, then we’re simply not doing our incredible community justice. Nor would be we doing our part in contributing to creating a more inclusive future,” says Kay Michelsen. What does it take, effort-wise, to be able to achieve an evenly balanced ratio of speakers, men & women + non-binary, two years running? “It’s less about 'the effort' or 'how hard it is' and more about the intention behind why we’re doing things and understanding the value of the impact we want to contribute with. At TechBBQ, in the past few years, we’ve shifted our strategy, so the entire team and tech community are working with the DEI goals and our principles in mind. That’s why we succeed collectively rather than working within a system that isn’t designed for it. Also, there are so many incredible people out there, and it takes wanting to do it as a good start to making it happen,” adds Kay Michelsen. TechBBQ is a space for people to connect, share knowledge, build their networks, and have access to new opportunities. That’s why it’s crucial that the stage program is representative of the wealth of people we have in this startup ecosystem and whose insights help share a more layered future. Collective contribution to the shaping of the program Even though most credit goes to Kay Michelsen for her diligent work, she feels it’s only right to thank the TechBBQ organization and everyone who’s helped contribute their knowledge and extended their resources and networks to make this happen. »Again this year, I’m very grateful and happy we’ve managed to maintain such an important goal. Diversity, representation, equality, and inclusion matter more than we believe,« concludes Kay Michelsen. In 2023, the program reflected 51,8 % of women and non-binary speakers across all stages, while 2022 was a bit short of that with 42 % and 2021 was 36 %. Today we hit 700 episodes of Tech Talks. I think it's fitting that I'm in Copenhagen for TechBBQ with Sound & Colour Films. The podcast is wonderful to make. But the fact it's opened the doors to speaking at conferences like this, Web Summit, UNLEASH, CIO WaterCooler, WOMEN IN TECH ® Global and others has been a huge privilege. I've been supported by Nash Squared, and Harvey Nash throughout and having their banking to make documentaries that brings some of our research to life is hugely rewarding and fun. So I'd say... If you have an idea, run with it. It doesn't matter if it's not super slick or polished because if you commit and run with it you'll learn so much and meet some amazing folk along the way. Thank-you everyone who's helped this passion project grow into the role I have today. #podcast #technology #content
