Protecting our precious groundwater.

About us

Protecting our precious groundwater Did you know our urban area sits on the big Brighton chalk block, an aquifer that supplies the majority of the area's drinking water? Hosted by The Living Coast UNESCO Biosphere, The Aquifer Project aims at working collaboratively with key local players to protect the quality and quantity of our groundwater. Since 2016, together with Brighton & Hove City Council, Southern Water, the Environment Agency and the South Downs National Park Authority, this wide-reaching programme works with residents, farmers, landowners, and schools across the Brighton and Lewes area.
