Our IFT Next West & Wales reps Tomos Wyn-Jones and Hatti Burge hosted a networking lunch yesterday afternoon, bringing professionals in the region together to catch up and to network.   IFT Next is aimed at professionals who have identified turnaround and business support as their long-term career pathway. Typically, these professionals will have established themselves at a management level within turnaround and restructuring and are now looking to build upon their profile and network. We were delighted to host several complimentary events for the IFT Next community last week. We held a networking lunch for our Midlands region and a Dishoom breakfast feast for the London & South turnaround and transformation community. We ended our 2025 North Conference with an excellent panel on Accessing Finance, consisting of Martin Jesper, Gemma Wright of Reward Funding, Oliver W. of FTI Consulting and Austin Thorp of Leumi UK. The panel discussed what they are currently seeing in the market, including more blended models and partnerships between lenders. They also discussed the importance of early communication and transparency with funders and exploring alternative funding options as there are different lenders for different parts of the business life cycle. At our North Conference on 7th March, we heard from Lizzy Wood of Hill Dickinson LLP, Sarah O'Toole of PwC, Steve Tancock, Chris Rooney and Milly Camley on Transitioning to Becoming an Independent. Covering reasons to and challenges of making the move, and the importance of a network, it was a great panel for IFT members and the audience. At our North Conference last week, we really enjoyed hearing from Matthew Brown of Gateley and Stephen Hunt of Griffins who took us through a fascinating care homes case study with lots of twists and turns. Ultimately, they showed the value of telling the right story and managing stakeholders, including courts, to deliver a successful turnaround. We were delighted to have Steve Rutherford of Valtus UK, Kelly Jones, Dominic Proctor MBA, Adam Keasey of Endless LLP and Warren Beese speak on our Operational Turnaround and Transformation panel at the North Conference last week. The discussion made clear the value of operational turnaround and transformation in an uncertain environment with management fatigue in the face of continue volatility. Last week our CEO Milly Camley and our Chair Claire Burden had the pleasure of speaking on a webinar on the new landscape facing independent schools. They spoke alongside David Woodgate of Independent Schools' Bursars Association and Danny Dartnaill of BDO UK LLP. It was an excellent panel that gave a really thorough overview of the challenges facing the sector, as well as some approaches to mitigate these and look for opportunities. Last week, Sara Stoker of PwC, Michael W. of Lloyds Banking Group, Nick Francis of Swan Partners and James Davison of DLA Piper provided an excellent market overview at our North Conference. They discussed some of the macroeconomic pressures, challenges in particular sectors such as consumer-facing (retail and leisure), financing options, and some of the solutions they were seeing, including M&A, asset disposals and tools including Restructuring Plans. They set the scene for the rest of the panels and the session was very comprehensive.
