🔄 Throwback to Our very first ‘The Lighting Police Workshop’ held at Light23 LiGHT Expo London in London 🔙 This time last year we had a wonderful experiential workshop! 💡 Light and Darkness Exploration: A Hands-On Walk-Around Workshop 💡 Led by 3 members of the TLP Advisory Board ~ Katia Kolovea of Archifos , Gary Thornton of Nulty+ and James Poore of JPLD ~ We created an excellent opportunity for constructive educational conversations focusing on observing and discussing lighting in urban spaces. 📌 It was fantastic to connect with all participants, decode luminance, measure illuminance, and explore the impact of light while walking the streets of London. We mapped it all out, shared insightful conversations, and, of course, had a lot of laughter! 📌We must mention that this event wouldn’t have been possible without the special invitation by the darc media Helen Ankers , Matt Waring and Sarah Cullen to host the very first The Lighting Police event as well as the valuable support of the amazing team Helvar sponsoring our TLP hats for all participants and supporting our vision! Thank you Josh Singer and everyone who joined! 📌 Special thanks to Zubair Ahmed of Studio Plus India, one of our Advisory Board Members , for sponsoring the workshop materials! We loved the TLP pin badges and hi-vis vests, and we can’t wait to use them again in future workshops! 🟡 🔵 Looking ahead, we’re thrilled for next year’s events and the exciting plans we have in store! We’re eager to expand these unique workshops to new audiences and explore collaboration opportunities at international events. If you're organizing a light-focused event or show, let’s bring The Lighting Police experience to your city! 🎤 You know you just can’t beat an in-person event and brainstorming with like-minded people! 🔹 If you were one of the participants, comment below to relive the experience with us. 🔹 Interested in hosting a similar workshop at your next event? Many owl species, like the Great Horned Owl and the Eastern Screech Owl, roost in trees during the day and nap in trees at night. Although they are nocturnal hunters, they have been observed resting and sleeping during the night, particularly after feeding to help manage their energy. We encourage you to take action to reduce light pollution around your home and community! The simplest solution? Turn off your outdoor lights at night! Using timers and motion sensors to ensure light at night is only being used when it is needed is a simple first step to helping birds and nocturnal environments. Be sure to check out our blog post about light pollution and bird migration. https://bit.ly/4btVIJf #DiscoverTheNight #DarkSky #DarkSkyInternational #SaveTheNight #NightMatters #LightPollution #TakeAction #ROLAN #BirdMigration

Absolutely Shocking! We need more regulation for electricians. I was sent this yesterday by a client. She was very worried because 6 of the uplights on the project had burnt out. So often it is the manufacturer who gets the blame for failed fittings, when actually a lot of time it is install error. But this one takes the cake. Here is what happened: - Electrician blew the original uplights. - Rather than own up to the error, he broke the seal on the fitting (voiding the warranty) and tore out the original LEDs. - He then cut small sections of LED strip (cannibalised from another circuit on the project) and stuffed these in the uplight. - Finally he applied some silicone to the LED strip sticking out the back, and wired them up. I think this might be winning my prize for worst install ever. The electrician had already been sacked by the time this came to light, so the main contractor is left having to pick up a bill for the whole replacement (over £1000 for all the fittings). This is why we need better regulation and education for electricians, and we need main contractors to stop trying to squeeze every penny from subcontractors on projects. #lighting #lightingdesign #residentialdesign #architecture #electricians #electricalinstallation
