We are thrilled to share that WeMindTheGap has been awarded funding over the next five years from The National Lottery Community Fund, helping us to continue our important work supporting young people in the North West of England and North Wales, who have fallen through the gaps for many different reasons, and are not in education, employment or training. The £4.9 million funding over five years from The National Lottery Community Fund will sustain and help grow WeMindTheGap programmes, supporting our ambition to reach over 15,000 young people at a cost of £12 million. Thank you so much to The National Lottery Community Fund for recognising how important our work is in developing young people and enabling us to continue to deliver such vital services in the community. Our CEO, Ali Wheeler,  said “This funding represents a huge milestone for the charity and a clear recognition of the difference we are making to young people’s lives. The ongoing support from The National Lottery Community Fund is invaluable, as it gives us the flexibility to continue to grow, adapt, and deepen our impact year on year. This funding will help us build on our community model, and reach even more young people who deserve better. By partnering with local employers, we will ensure that these young people have access to meaningful work opportunities.” You can read more about this vital funding as well as comments from our Patron, Sir John Timpson of Timpson Group, on our website: https://lnkd.in/dWc_7u5M We’d also like to thank our trustees for their support: Karen Campbell-Williams Rachel Clacher CBE Louise Gatenby Karen Jones Kirsty Rogers #tnlcf #NationalLotteryCommunityFund #TheNationalLottery #ChangingLivesEveryDay #Community #Funding

  • This #BrainTumourAwarenessMonth, we wanted to highlight the incredible story and work of Joss Searchlight and one of their founding trustees, Dianne Parkes. Dianne Parkes set up Joss Searchlight, a dedicated organisation focused on supporting families affected by childhood brain tumours. The organisation was named after Dianne’s own son, Joss Parkes, who tragically died from an incurable diffuse brain stem glioma (DIPG) at the age of only 10-years-old. So far, the team's incredible efforts have raised over £150,000 to help progress research into rare incurable brain cancers. “Joss Searchlight comes from a very personal place, and other trustees and support managers are in the same boat. Joss brought happiness to us all, and he wanted to help other children. He is our absolute inspiration for all of this," Dianne said. Today, Joss Searchlight is one of 169 projects in Wales to receive a share of over £7 million in funding thanks to National Lottery players. The grants will help groups carry out their vital and varied work in supporting their communities. To read more about Joss Searchlight and the other incredible projects we've recently funded, click here: https://ow.ly/B7j450VbInz Mae hi’n fis #YmwybyddiaethTiwmorYrYmennydd, ac roeddem am roi sylw i stori a gwaith anhygoel Joss Searchlight, ac un o’r ymddiriedolwyr, Diane Parkes. Fe sefydlodd Diane Parkes fudiad ymroddedig Joss Searchlight, sy’n canolbwyntio ar deuluoedd a effeithir arnynt gan diwmor yr ymennydd mewn plentyndod. Mae’r mudiad wedi ei enwi ar ôl mab Diane, Joss Parkes, a fu farw oherwydd glioma coesyn yr ymennydd (DIPG) nad oedd gwella ohono ac yntau, yn drist iawn, yn ddim ond 10 mlwydd oed. Hyd yma, mae ymdrechion gwych y tîm wedi codi dros £150,000 i helpu gydag ymchwil i mewn i ganser yr ymennydd prin. “Mae Joss Searchlight yn dod o le personol iawn, ac mae’r ymddiriedolwyr a’r rheolwyr cefnogol eraill yn yr un cwch. Daeth Joss â hapusrwydd i ni gyd, ac roedd o am helpu plant eraill. Ef yw’r ysbrydoliaeth ar gyfer hyn i gyd,” meddai Diane. Heddiw, mae Joss Serachlight yn un o 169 o brosiectau yng Nghymru i dderbyn cyfran o dros £7 miliwn mewn ariannu diolch i chwaraewyr y Loteri Genedlaethol. Bydd y grantiau yn helpu grwpiau i wneud eu gwaith hanfodol ac amrywiol yn cefnogi eu cymunedau. • Mae ymchwil yn dangos bod dau draean o elusennau bach eisoes yn defnyddio AI. 🤖 Ond mae llawer yn dal i wynebu rhwystrau, megis diffyg hyder, sgiliau neu gapasiti. Felly sut allwn ni wneud y mwyaf o botensial AI fel sector, tra'n sicrhau ei fod yn cael ei ddefnyddio'n gyfrifol? 💡 Fel ariannwr cymunedol mwyaf y DU, rydym yn cydnabod bod gennym gyfrifoldeb i gydweithio ag eraill a rhannu arfer gorau i harneisio potensial AI yn llwyddiannus. Dyna pam rydyn ni wedi ymrwymo i ddefnyddio AI fel dull i wella gwybodaeth, arbenigedd ac ymrwymiad pobl, o fewn ein sefydliad a’r cymunedau rydyn ni’n eu cefnogi. Dros y flwyddyn ddiwethaf, rydym wedi dod â phobl ynghyd ar draws y Gronfa a thu hwnt, gan gynnwys arbenigwyr mewn arloesedd, i ddatblygu set o egwyddorion ar gyfer defnyddio AI. Mae’r rhain wedi’u gwreiddio yn ein gwerthoedd fel ariannwr a’n gobaith yw y bydd y rhain yn cefnogi eraill yn y sector i lywio deallusrwydd artiffisial – a’r potensial a ddaw – gyda mwy o hyder. 👇🏼 Ein 10 egwyddor yw: ✔️. Sicrhau bod AI yn gweithio i bobl. ✔️. Sicrhau bod pobl yn gwybod beth sy'n digwydd. ✔️. Bod yn atebol. ✔️. Rhannu ein dysgu, llwyddiannau a methiannau. ✔️. Bod yn gynhwysol. ✔️. Canolbwyntio ar y buddion i'n staff a'n cwsmeriaid. ✔️. Monitro ein defnydd o AI a'i effaith. ✔️. Defnyddio AI yn unig pan fydd yn ystyrlon. ✔️. Bod yn dryloyw. ✔️. Diogelu preifatrwydd pawb. Dysgwch ragor am ein hegwyddorion, a sut y gallent helpu eich sefydliad i harneisio potensial AI: https://ow.ly/wSFF50V5USy

  • The National Lottery Community Fund Wales / Cronfa Gymunedol y Loteri Genedlaethol Cymru reposted this

Research shows that two thirds of small charities are already using AI. 🤖 But many still face barriers, such as a lack of confidence, skills, or capacity. So how can we maximise AI’s potential as a sector, while ensuring it’s used responsibly? 💡 As the UK’s biggest community funder, we recognise that we have a responsibility to collaborate with others and share best practice to successfully harness the potential of AI. That’s why we’re committed to using AI as a tool to enhance the knowledge, expertise and commitment of people, both within our organisation and the communities we support. Over the past year, we’ve brought together people across the Fund and beyond, including experts in innovation, to develop a set of principles for using AI. These are embedded in our values as a funder, and our hope is that these will support others in the sector to navigate AI – and the potential it brings – with more confidence. 👇🏼 Our 10 principles are: ✔️. Ensure AI works for people. ✔️. Always have a human in the loop.  ✔️. Be accountable. ✔️. Share our learning, successes, and failures. ✔️. Be inclusive. ✔️. Focus on the benefit to our staff and customers. ✔️. Monitor our use of AI and its impact. ✔️. Only use AI when it is meaningful. ✔️. Be transparent. ✔️. Protect everyone’s privacy.
