Your support will help food banks provide emergency food to people facing hardship – and help us get closer to a future where nobody needs a food bank, because everyone can afford the essentials. 🙌 🤝 A huge thank you to Tesco and their customers for all their support. More than 40,000 people give up their time to volunteer at food banks across the UK. Let's hear it for the volunteers 👏👏👏 Without these incredible people we simply wouldn’t be able to do what we do, and the many people facing hardship wouldn’t get the support they need.

Today’s Kings Speech was a promising start to the new Government’s pledge to end the need for emergency food. 🙏 They committed to: ✔️ Improve workers’ rights ✔️ Provide more security for renters These are two driving factors which leave people unable to afford the essentials. Insecure, inflexible work traps people in hardship. And unaffordable rents and constant insecurity for renters leave many facing homelessness. These measures will better protect people and help take us closer to a future where everyone can afford the essentials. It's now vital that the Government builds on these measures with urgent action in their first budget. People facing hunger cannot afford to wait for long-term measures to take effect. 💚 #Foodbanks #KingsSpeech

Today we want to give a big shout out to our friends at Asda and their customers! At their latest food drive, OVER 200,000 MEALS were donated to food banks across the UK. 🙌 These generous donations will help food banks support people facing hunger and hardship in communities across the UK. Thank you. 💚

More than 1.1 MILLION emergency food parcels were provided for children by our food banks last year. When families can't afford essentials, this impacts their health, employment, and education. Kings Speech tomorrow. What does it need to include to start delivering the government's commitment to 'end the mass dependence on emergency food'? Here I set out the 4 bills we want to see tomorrow. And the urgent actions that must follow in the Autumn Budget. The Trussell Trust stands ready to work across sectors and with government to tackle the appalling levels of hunger and hardship across the country, and end the need for food banks for good. Last summer, our food banks supported 430,000 people with emergency food – and 160,000 were children. This isn’t right. No child should ever face hunger. And we’re campaigning for the change that needs to happen to make this a reality. But until we get there, our food banks are doing everything they can to help people in their communities. 💚 And they wouldn’t be able to do it without partners like Tesco who have just announced an additional funding to support food banks in our network. Their generosity will make a big difference in communities across the UK – and if you’re a Tesco customer, you can help too! 👀 🥫 Next time you’re at a large Tesco store, keep your eyes peeled for their pre-packed donation bags. Each one contains essential long-life items, so all you need to do is pick it up, scan it with the rest of your shopping, and drop it in the collection point. Can you guess?! How much is the basic rate of Universal Credit for a single adult? Universal Credit is falling short - and this is pushing more people to food banks. This isn't right, but we CAN change this. We're calling for an Essentials Guarantee to be embedded into Universal Credit, which would ensure it covers the costs of the essentials. #UniversalCredit #Foodbanks
