In the past 90 days, an impressive 1,316 young people have engaged in at least one of our creative activities. This demonstrates the value of providing accessible and engaging arts activities for our community. As we prepare for our upcoming Bright Beginnings Bash on 16th October, our young participants are actively involved in creating unique, handmade table centrepieces and personalised thank you gifts. These initiatives not only foster creativity and self-expression but also provide valuable skills and experiences that will benefit them in their futures. We invite potential business supporters to join us in supporting our efforts to empower young people and enrich our community. I’m excited about the future! 🏛️👏 Hands-On Experience: I had the chance to cover one of our senior youth sessions one evening, which was a rewarding reminder of the direct impact of our work. 🙌👥 Site Visit: Visiting the site of another youth zone due to be built in Crewe was an exciting glimpse into the growth of the OnSide network. The Potential Ban of Social Media for Teenagers: A Double-Edged Sword? The debate over whether to ban social media for teenagers has reignited, with the UK government considering policies to limit access to platforms like Instagram and TikTok. This move, aimed at safeguarding youth mental health, highlights both potential benefits and risks. Mental Health Benefits: Many studies suggest a link between social media usage and anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem in teens. Reducing screen time could lead to improved well-being and more time spent on real-life interactions. Reduced Exposure to Harmful Content: Social media can expose teens to cyberbullying, unrealistic body standards, and harmful trends. Limiting access may protect vulnerable users. Digital Literacy: Social media is part of the digital landscape teens must learn to navigate. A ban might hinder their ability to develop critical digital skills necessary for the future workforce. Loss of Community: For many teens, social media is a source of connection, especially for those who struggle with socialising in person. It provides a platform for self-expression and building communities. Balancing the mental health needs of teens with the benefits of connectivity is crucial. What are your thoughts on this complex issue? Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ewekUyVz #YouthWellbeing #SocialMedia #MentalHealth #DigitalLiteracy

Last week, we had an exciting visit from Stephanie Peacock, MP for Barnsley South and Minister for Sport, Media, Civil Society and Youth, Warinder Juss MP for Wolverhampton West and The National Lottery Community Fund. We were thrilled to show them around our building, discuss the challenges facing young people in our community, and highlight the amazing work we're doing in our MAP mentoring project to support children in care which is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. It's so important to keep these issues at the forefront of the government's mind, and we’re proud to have the opportunity to speak on behalf of young people of Wolverhampton. #YouthZone #NationalLottery #DCMS #MAPMentoring #YoungPeople #CommunitySupport

Robert's journey at The Way Youth Zone has been transformative. Initially joining to break free from isolation, he found a supportive community that reshaped his social experiences. "My mom thought it would be a good way for me to get out of the house and make friends," Robert explains, reflecting on his initial struggles to connect with others in school. At our Youth Zone, Robert discovered a supportive community that reshaped his social experiences. From engaging in activities like the gym, art, and music, to finding a home in the Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) Club, Robert found acceptance and a sense of belonging. "The other guys have helped me learn the game and made me feel like I fit in," he says gratefully. Beyond recreation, our charity offers a sense of belonging, fosters friendships, and nurtures confidence in young people like Robert. Without support of people like you, we simply couldn’t offer young people our unrivalled range of activities and opportunities to help them fulfil their full potential and achieve their aspirations. Contact us to find out how you can support our young people to thrive.
