Weir has secured a £53m contract for the Reko Diq copper-gold project in Pakistan’s Balochistan Province. The fine grinding, separation and tailings solutions include Weir’s large format ENDURON® HPGRs – the highest capacity design in the market. The tier one greenfield copper project, that is 50% owned by Barrick Gold Corporation, is targeting first production in 2028 with an estimated mine life of 40+ years. Mining technology for a sustainable future is at the heart of what we do. We’ve worked in close partnership with Barrick Gold to develop an innovative, energy efficient solution that is particularly suited to the water-scarce climate and geology of the project. We are proud to announce our partnership with De Grey Mining Ltd to deliver a state-of-the-art, ø2.4m x 2.25m Enduron® HPGR (high-pressure grinding rolls) to their Hemi Gold Project in the Pilbara region, Western Australia. The Hemi Gold Project will benefit from our cutting-edge HPGR technology, which delivers operational flexibility, grinding efficiency and equipment availability - while also saving up to 40% on energy usage, lowering their carbon footprint. This collaboration underscores our commitment to sustainable mining and innovation and is the fifth similar sized Enduron® HPGR delivered in the Pilbara region. Our recently opened Port Hedland Service Centre will play a crucial role in supporting this project, and our team look forward to working closely with De Grey Mining for servicing and product training. Science, technology and innovation are at the heart of solving the world’s biggest sustainability challenges. Weir operates and serves customers in a number of water stressed regions of the world, and using water wisely is important to us. So, we’re delighted to support the top 10 finalists of the UK Space Agency #AqualunarChallenge announced today by Challenge Works. The £1.2m international collaboration between the United Kingdom (UK) Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency is harnessing new areas of science and technology to purify the water buried beneath the moon’s surface to create drinking water to grow food, create oxygen and for rocket fuel. These advancements are key for future deep space exploration and water purification on earth. The finalists have each been awarded £30,000 to develop their solutions before an expert judging panel will choose a grand prize winner and two runners-up in 2025. Over the coming months Weir will support finalists with product development, R&D evolution, business planning and manufacturing. Today we had the honour of welcoming the Lieutenant Governor of Oklahoma, Matt Pinnell, and John Haran, European Director of the Oklahoma Department of Commerce to our headquarters in Glasgow to discuss opportunities for further engagement and partnership within the state, with topics including the role of critical minerals in the transition to clean energy. We’re delighted to announce that we have been recognised in the latest CCLA Investment Management report for making the biggest overall improvement in managing workplace mental health over the past two years. We’ve retained the Tier 2 status awarded to us in 2023 – indicating our consistent approach to integrating mental health management into our business strategy and reporting. The CCLA corporate mental health benchmark is used by investors to evaluate how the world’s largest listed companies are approaching and leading in driving positive change in employee mental health. This is a focus for investors because the financial performance of a company is directly linked to the mental health of its employees.
