During the Legal Funding Journal’s PACCAR Revisited webinar, Therium CIO Neil Purslow explained why the government’s decision to shelve the LFA Bill will negatively impact the competitiveness of the UK legal industry, which goes against the government’s desire for the UK legal industry to be the fastest growing in the world: “It perpetuates uncertainty…When international investors look at the funding market, they’ll have to consider whether they want to be investing in the UK or whether it’s better to put their money elsewhere. And that’s exactly the point about international competition that Lord Ponsonby identified as being one of the important reasons for the bill.” Neil was joined on the webinar by Robert Marven KC at 4 New Square Chambers Chambers, Ben Knowles, Chair of International Arbitration at Clyde & Co, Nicholas Marler, Head of Technical Underwriting at Litica and moderator Tets Ishikawa, Managing Director at LionFish Litigation Finance Limited who discussed the impact of a delay in the legislative fix for PACCAR, the impact of PACCAR on claimants, funders and insurers, satellite litigation and the enforceability of LFAs post-PACCAR and the CJC’s review of litigation funding.
