Three Crowns LLP partners Daryl Chew and Shaparak Saleh, and associate Ahmed El Far were recently appointed as Delegates to the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR. The Commission comprises experts in the field of international dispute resolution, and its mission is to enable thought leadership across the ICC network. The Commission produces reports, recommendations and guidance on practical, procedural and legal issues in arbitration and ADR, and contributes to the development of ICC Dispute Resolution Services. Tom Villalón, associate in the Washington DC office of Three Crowns LLP published an article in the inaugural issue of the Harvard International Arbitration Law Students Association (HIALSA) Arbitration Review – the first arbitration-focused publication edited by Harvard Law School students. Three Crowns LLP partners Carmen Martinez Lopez and Ilija Mitrev Penushliski have been appointed, respectively, as a Vice-President and as a Member of the ICC Court of Arbitration. Carmen and Ilija were elected upon the proposal of the Court President and will serve a three-year team, commencing on July 1st 2024. Three Crowns LLP, Columbia Law School, and The Dickson Poon School of Law at King's College London recently hosted The David D. Caron Praelium 2024: A Celebration of Advocacy, at The Law Society, in London, as part of London International Disputes Week (LIDW).   At this year's event, advocates Kate Davies KC and Tariq Baloch appeared before a tribunal comprising Hilary Heilbron KC acting as Tribunal President, Sam Wordsworth KC, and Audley Sheppard KC. Three Crowns partner Manish Aggarwal provided the opening remarks and introduced our esteemed speakers, as well as the case study. The advocates addressed the issue of whether the tribunal should grant an order filed by Vito Organics, the claimant in the arbitration, to restrain the respondent Fredo Foods (a partially state-owned company in the Republic of Brasi), from taking any step to progress a new arbitration filed against Vito in relation to this dispute; and secondly, whether the tribunal has jurisdiction to grant an order restraining a shareholder of Fredo from pursuing a suit filed in the High Court of Brasi.   To view a video recording and photographs from the event, and access the full case study, click here: https://lnkd.in/eEsmZuE3. Donald (Trey) Earl Childress III, Of Counsel in the Washington, DC office of Three Crowns LLP, as co-authored a blog post titled “Do National Courts Really Give Effect to 90% of All International Arbitral Awards?”, recently published by Kluwer Arbitration Blog. The blog post explains an empirical study that assesses the rate at which U.S. federal courts give effect to international arbitral awards. Based on the data, the study concludes that U.S. federal courts are more likely than previously assessed by other empirical studies to give effect to international arbitral awards. The blog post is based on the Trey’s co-authored article, Challenging and Enforcing International Arbitral Awards in U.S. Federal Courts: An Empirical Study, which is forthcoming in the Virginia Journal of International Law.
