LinkAge's Over 50s Are the Life of the Party: This October, we celebrated Older Person's Week by hosting LinkAge Plus's annual tea party at our Tarling East Community Centre. The day brought together over 70 vibrant guests for good food, great company, and lively music. At THCH, we’re proud to support LinkAge Plus in their mission to combat isolation and loneliness among older residents in Shadwell, Wapping, Stepney, and Whitechapel. Through our community centres, we help provide a variety of activities tailored for individuals aged 50 and over. Watch the video recap of this wonderful event and see how we’re helping to foster connection in our community.

Lunch Club brings warmth and connection each week: We recently chatted with attendees at our Minerva Community Centre. The group get together every Wednesday for soup, tea, toast and more, as well as a chance to catch up with familiar faces from across the estate and the local area. Andy, our Community Development Manager shared: “The Lunch Club is one of the highlights of my week. Most of our group is made up of residents from the Minerva estate, but we’re happy to welcome anyone who wants to join us. One thing I've really noticed over the last couple of years is how strong our sense of community is. The folks in our group genuinely care for each other and look out for one another. “ Originally set up as a warm hub in 2023 as household bills rose, the Lunch Club offered respite from the cold but quickly became a social gathering to look forward to for attendees. After seeing the connections, it began, our Community Development team continued the initiative, serving over 350 warm meals since its launch. Watch the video below to hear from Andy, Shema and attendees.

This National Inclusion Week, our CEO Anita Khan shares insights with the National Housing Federation on why our sector urgently needs more ethnically diverse leaders. While the workforce reflects the diversity of our community, only 3% of our leaders are Black and just 1% are Asian. This disparity raises an important question: How can we create pathways for more diverse leadership? Anita reflects: "My final call to action for the sector is this: don’t leave it to the only person of colour in the room to talk about equality. I’ve been that person too many times and we shouldn’t always have to be the ones speaking out. Speak up and don't underestimate the power of echoing our message."

Our Director of Asset & Investment, Anna Beach spoke to The i paper about the lack of government funding for social housing blocks. Whilst we've been able to receive government grants for leaseholder blocks like Verdigris and get remediation work completed, it is taking longer to complete works on social housing buildings like Geoffrey Woolley due to a lack of funds.   Due to a large proportion of our properties being sold as Right To Buy, we don't have the necessary rental income to support our remediation efforts, so government funding is essential.    The safety of our residents is our priority and we have measures in place to ensure that should a fire occur they will remain safe.
