Regulatory loopholes in the EU allowed a 20% increase in the number of Dodge Ram's sold in Europe in 2023, with nearly 5,000 sold last year. These same loopholes are now allowing these monstrous vehicles to come to the UK for the first time as a result of them being imported through "individual vehicle approval", allowing vehicles to bypass basic environmental and safety regulations for cars, as reported by Nicholas Hellen: https://lnkd.in/eg7DGqWg Originally this system was intended for adapted or specialised vehicles such as those for the mobility impaired or emergency services. Now, however, manufacturers of US pick-up trucks are exploiting the system to import these 2.5 tonne "cars" into the EU and, soon, the UK. Why is this a problem? These cars are highly polluting and highly dangerous to other road users. 😷 CO2 emissions from Dodge RAMs range between 300g and 900g per kilometre - around three to nine times higher than the average for newly-sold cars. 🚲 In a collision, a pick up truck is almost three times more likely to kill a pedestrian or cyclist than a normal car. This loophole needs to be closed ASAP. See Transport & Environment (T&E)'s letter from July calling for the EU to take action: https://lnkd.in/et2Z3yWV
