Climate Emergency UK CIC have released new data today that shows England's Mayoral Authorities need to ramp up the decarbonisation of their bus fleets. To make sure this happens we need the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom to end the competitive funding process so all local areas can benefit from zero emission buses. In some areas, not one vehicle is zero emissions We have an exclusive with The i Paper on the lack of zero emission buses in England's Mayoral Authorities... the headlines are: - 2 combined authorities have no zero emission buses at all - The average percentage of the bus fleet that is zero emission is 11% - The areas with the highest percentage of zero emission buses is London at 14.44% and Cambridgeshire & Peterborough at 12.65% - Every mayoral authority, except Tees Valley, has a target for a zero emission bus fleet by 2040 or sooner Annie Pickering, Operations Director at Climate Emergency UK, said, “With less than 6 years left, English Mayors need to double down their efforts to decarbonise their bus fleet by 2030. Spain is banning some short-haul domestic flights as part of its plan to reduce carbon emissions. Flights with a rail alternative that takes less than two and a half hours will no longer be allowed, “except in cases of connection with hub airports that link with international routes”. The restriction is part of an agreement made in Congress by Spain’s coalition government. The country has been considering a ban since 2021 as part of its 2050 climate action plan.

This isn’t just ‘interesting’. This is what radical, tangible, measurable action on climate breakdown looks like. This is what a government aligning its actions with its goals and values looks like.
