The competition is open to any team with a tech or science idea, from concept to pre-seed startups, with at least one team member affiliated with the University of Cambridge. The winners will share a £30k prize fund, receive mentoring, and free membership of The Bradfield Centre, the City’s leading Tech Hub. We are proud to see strong The Trinity Bradfield Prize representation in the first-ever cohort of Founders at the University of Cambridge. Great to see the ecosystem at work. Congrats to everyone who made it onto the program; it looks like it will be an amazing, transformational experience.

It was wonderful to have our teams back in The Bradfield Centre today for mentoring speed dating. Our thanks to Rachel Daniel, Jamie Urquhart, Geoff Dragon, Andrew Basham, Alan Birrell and Anthony Pryke for giving up their time to support the teams, and thanks to Richard Carey-Evans for his advice on grants. It won't be long until we open up the competition again for 2024. Time flies when you are having fun, and yes I'm terrible at taking photos.

Three biotech businesses founded by alumni of Cambridge Judge Entrepreneurship Centre programmes have been awarded the top three spots at the prestigious The Trinity Bradfield Prize competition run by the The Bradfield Centre and Trinity College Cambridge.  The overall winner of the £10k prize was Cambridge Nucleomics. Cambridge Nucleomics is a #biotech spinoff from the University of Cambridge which offers a fully automated point-of-care sepsis test in under an hour. CEO and co-founder, Hendrik Runge PhD, is an alumnus of Cambridge Judge Entrepreneurship Centre’s #EnterpriseTECH STAR (2019) as is his co-founder Mohammed Alawami (2021). The Cambridge Nucleomics team also participated in #AccelerateCambridge.   Second place and a prize of £5k was awarded to Compound Hound. The company produces a breath sensor which helps determine if a newborn is suffering from jaundice. Founder Melanie Whitfield PhD is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cambridge and an alumna of our EnterpriseTECH (2021) programme, as well as contributing as an inventor on an earlier programme.  The Hellings prize of £5k was given to BioTryp Therapeutics which has developed a new class of biofilm inhibitors that provide an alternative to traditional antibiotic treatments. Ashraf Zarkan PhD, a Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge, is one of our recent EnterpriseTECH inventors (2024) and co-founder, Cameron Croft, is also an EnterpriseTECH (2023) alumnus.  Our congratulations to all concerned on their achievements. The finalists will also benefit from mentoring and complementary membership of The Bradfield Centre at Cambridge Science Park where the competition was staged. The Chair of the Judges, Sir Greg Winter, also announced a new prize for next year's competition. Just a heads up on CJBS EnterpriseTECH STAR (10 Apr-14 Jun 2024). We've pushed forward the application deadline to 19 February to keep the application window open to the current EnterpriseTECH Cohort 13 (60 students) and Cohort 14 (about 110 students) starting Jan 9. EnterpriseTECH STAR applicants need a business idea of their own. We take 20 people, and you have to have completed or be on EnterpriseTECH to be eligible to apply. It is an extraordinary experience to help you grow as an entrepreneur and build a narrative for your business idea. We'll hold a couple of general info sessions online on December 15 and January 29 for those of you that are keen to join. Get in touch with me.
